Default Need Technical Input

The dealers in the middle east have just started importing the SECOND generation IS (and i have been waiting for it eagerly). Unfortunately what they are importing is a strange animal, its the IS300 where as in the rest of the world its IS250 and/or IS350. the IS300 is lethargic with 0-100 kph in 7.7 seconds.

What I want to know is:

1. If i buy L-tuned performance parts for the IS350 or IS250, will they fit the IS300?
2. Is there any where else in the world they are selling second generation IS with the old 300 engine? If so, i would like to search for L performance parts in that direction.
3. Can i use the old IS300 or ES300 performance parts for the new IS?

Thanks for your help. I guess i need to hear from people who really know the technicals of Lexus to be guided in the right direction.

Thanks

Hi mate I live in ME too
well, we got same lexus as Chine's version cus of Direct injection demands a more refined, high quality of gasoline, and the countries that get the new IS300 don't have it. ... I really dont think there would be any problem with fitting the L-tune.. sorry I can't help much ..but I told you what I know

PS: be aware that when referring to the quality of gasoline (cleanliness/purity ), I'm NOT referring to octane but by sulfur content.

Thats interesting. I was under the impression that it was a marketing decision as this is a small market for Lexus and they wouldnt want the IS to compete with the newly introduced ES350. Also not brining the IS350 now allows them to offer it couple of years down the road while at the same time charging IS350 like prices.

In any case, it is not good for true Lexus ME enthusiasts who always have to wait and may eventually lose interest.

I am looking at the mods to see how much faster it can be made but dont know if the mods are at all possible.

I have sent you a PM.

The thing is that they took the Direct injection off the engine..cus of mentioned above reasons.. other than that they are similar

Look at the bright side, at least you won't be whinging about the loud ticking noise at idle.

Wait a minute. You mean the difference between IS300 & IS350 is merely the injection?

Anyways, anyone else have tips on how & which Lexus parts to use to boost the acceleration on IS300? I am not looking to street race. I just feel the IS300 handles so well (almost like a bimmer) that it feels under powered (to me at least).

Yes, AND 0.5 liter less displacement.
If it is a GR series engine, it would be the 3GR-FE in the IS300.

The combination of the smaller displacement and the direct injection are significant contributors to output. For example, the 2GR-FE found in the ES & RX 350/Camry V6/Avalon is the same engine as the IS350 (2GR-FSE), except without direct injection (the S in the engine code denotes this). Yet, the 2GR-FE engines are rated 268 - 272 depending on the application. The 2GR-FSE (IS350) is rated at 306 HP. That is a difference of 34-38HP just due to the injection. Now, you have to factor in the loss of 0.5 liters of displacement. There is a 102 HP difference between the 4GR-FSE (IS250) and the 2GR-FSE (IS350) which are 1 liter apart in displacement. You could not say that 0.5 liters is worth 51 HP in this case because there are other confounding differences between the 2, mainly that the 2GR-FSE has both direct and indirect injection, while the 4GR-FSE has only direct injection.

Here's a link the 2nd generation IS with the 3-liter engine (IS300).

Can we infer from this which engine type it is and conclude which other Lexus (old or current) it shares the engine with?

Got some more info. Apparently the ME does get the same engine as China & the engine is 3GR-FE but still no solution in sight on how to modestly increase the power (other than importing an IS350 from the US but in that case the local dealers will not honor the warranty).

Is this the same engine that was on the the first generation U.S. spec IS300?
