Yes. Have the dealer keep it overnight so they can cold start and hear the rattle; they will then warranty the repair.

So does all 2IS have this problem and should be repaired? What does it sound like and when does it go away?
What exactly is wrong with the cam gear?

I just start and go and never noticed anything. Sometimes the start is weak if I didn't drive for days, but that's it.

Default 2nd Fix

I have a 2006 IS350 w/ 58K miles. I had TSIB EG019-07 done on 08/07/2007 @ 15,336 miles. The noise has come back...happens at least once a day. Took it to Lexus today to get TSIB EG019-08 done. Has anyone had any luck finally getting this fixed the 2nd time?

You must have this service done if you have the noise .... no one would buy this car sounding that way (at its worst). In fact, 3 years from now if it comes back i will expect Lexus to fix it .... its a design flaw and they are responsible until a permanent fix is in place.

From reports so far it seems the new parts are doing the job. The service advisor claimed the new gear scoops, or pools oil, in the needed areas for a quiet startup ..... accurate, or not, i don't know personally...... service advisers tend to tell people what they think they want to hear.

I would suggest to anyone going in for the first time .... insist on confirming that the NEW part is being used!!!

As long as the car is within warranty, then yes they will fix it under warrant.y

For the exhaust, they would have to show that your HKS is a culprit of the problem; of which it has nothing to do with this specific engine rattle during start.

Your dealer's being a douche to be honest. My rep that I go to every time I bring my car in never hesitates to do the TSIB's for me. They know it's a problem and shouldn't be second guessing you if you are hearing it. For christ sake, they send out letter/notices for you to bring your car in if you experience any of the issues on the TSIBs lol. If you car is under warranty, they shouldn't be giving you a hard time about doing the job for you. I guess it just really depends on the dealership if they want to run you around in circles.

It's the cam gear issue as Kurtz mentioned in the beginning of this thread. Get rid of it while your car is under warranty.

If you want to know more details. Lobuxracer has great information of where the noise generates from and he is spot on with his theories, because they were in fact proven once the TSIB was made clear to Customers.

This is my first time posting here and the whole reason I searched for anything dealing with a Lexus discussion in the first place was because I have the start-up rattle. So I have to first thank BUDS for posting his work order on here. I printed it and dropped it on the desk at my local Lexus dealer. I also printed out some of the discussions here on ClubLexus and the first thing my service rep said (which he was filling in for my assigned rep) was..."wow, you came prepared. I'm glad to see that". So thanks to all the "posters" too, for taking the time to talk out any joys/problems you might be having with your Lexus'.

So I went on the explain to him that the time I had my car in previously(over something that turned out to be nothing legitimately), I had voiced my concerns to my assigned service rep and she said she knew nothing about any kind of "noises" or anything of the sort and kinda moved me on my way. He immediately apologized. I went on to tell him that I came prepared THIS time I had my car in(which is for the 30k service) so there is no confusion. He was impressed to say the least.

**IMPORTANT** I ALSO recorded my car making the sound with my iPhone. He said that will save a lot of red tape time because they HAVE to hear the sound. He asked me to forward the sound file to his email. I did and he began searching for the TSIB. It took about two seconds for the TSIB info for this exact problem to come up in Lexus' system. I took my car in last Friday(six days ago today) to have the 30k done, the pedal recall for the 250 AND the TSIB for the "cold engine start up rattle". I haven't gotten it back yet but he assured me it WILL be taken care of. The rattle work is absolutely covered within the 70k warranty. So...you guys have no worries there. I do know the TSIB for it is like...49 pages I think. He offered to print it for me so I knew exactly what was going to be involved. I said...uh, nah. Hahaha

I just wanted to say thank you to ClubLexus and all of you guys/gals that discuss things on here. Without both of you...I wouldn't have figured this out as fast as I was able to. So thank you By the way...he looked at the discussions I had printed out and said, "ah cool...ClubLexus is a great site". Just remember, it helps to be as prepared as you can when sitting down across the desk from your service rep. It helps you and helps them be able to complete their job efficiently. BE PREPARED! It makes something that would've been a headache, into something much easier.

I'll keep you all updated!!!
Welcome to the club! Happy to help! I'm glad you got your issue taken care of. I haven't heard the noise since I had mine done either.

Yep ... in same boat as you Vik. Except I just need to wait about 45 mins after the engine is real hot and I can consistently get it to rattle.

Made three successful video recordings of this, two inside, and one outside. Don't know if it's a pattern, but noticed that all three times (about two weeks apart), my gas tank was 3/4 full.

I just noticed a rattle noise when I cold started engine. Anyone knows if cam shaft rattle happens on '08 IS350 also? I've been reading so far affects 06-07 IS. I wasn't sure whether the rattle was coming from dash or the engine but it only happens once during startup.

Added sound clip.

Anyone have TSIB for 08 IS350? Man this really blows.

Okay, so I dropped my car off for the cold rattle start up. The dealer couldn't duplicate the noise on the first day but, was able to on the second day my car was there. My adviser tells me that they can't do it because the parts needed is on back order but, also tells me that I should wait because there will be an actual recall for the cold rattle start and that they will notify me when it comes out. I'm a bit confused on what was explained so I'll leave it up to you guys to decipher. Are they trying to avoid fixing this problem? Thanks!
