yeah i know wat sound ur talkin about too..it only comes once in a while, in the morning only is when i noticed it, before my car warms up but yeah wen i heard it the first time i turned my car off to see if i was jus hearing things or if it was the car then wen i start it up again i dont hear the sound but i knew it was from the car.but nothing seems to br wrong with the car after that so i duno if its bad or not.most likely is bad tho. Caymandiver wassup man. so u been puttin 10w-30 i heard that 5w-30 fully synthetic is good enough but i heard u can substitute it wit 10w-30 i jus didnt know it was good to keep on puttin it in.does that do anything good for the car? i jus been puttin MOBILE1 5W-30 FULLY SYNTHETIC i jus bring my own case to the dealer and they do it for me tho.

Anyone experience this on a MY08 350? Our 08 350 also does the same thing tapping/ticking noise on warm up. The noise starts to immerge after approx 1 min from cold start up. I went to the stealership and ask the service advisor about it and he said it is normal. Is it? The noise is coming from the right side middle portion of the engine. Can it be the fuel pump or the VVT?

Just a follow up on the tapping/clicking noise. Took it for its first service and addressed the noise, they said it is normal. They also hear it on the ES, GS and RX. They said its the injectors and it is normal. I also addressed the excessive break dust and they replace my front pads under warranty.

The TSIB gives a specific range of VIN's in '06 and '07 for the VVT Intake Camshaft Gear Assembly “rattle” (which lasts only 1-3 seconds at startup).

We all have the injector clicking if you have these new “direct” injectors (I wonder if the port injector also contributes to the noise as well?) … nothing to worry about though.

My 350 went in tonight for the VVT assembly repair ….. 6 hours labor according to the TSIB.

Back in my hands now .... have only had 3 starts, but no VVT rattle so far ..... and the dealer didn't appear to damage anything else in the process ..... thats always a bonus.

I will post the bill of materials details when i get a chance.

Mine got done in 1 day. In on Wednesday at 10:30, picked up on Friday at 9 am. No more noise. Hope it lasts.

FWIW, the grinding noise from the steering wheel lock got diagnosed as "normal." I may be taking this up with Lexus customer service for resolution.

Weird! After I changed to Mobil1, for the first 5000 miles my car didn't make the stupid grinding noise on startup. Now it does it so OFTEN, not only on cold starts! I'm changing my oil on Monday see what's up. This is pathetic! I'm not bringing in my car for this repair until I know it's GUARANTEE can be 100% fixed.

New oil won't fix the problem. Get the TSIB done.

Yea well maybe it was just coincidence that after I changed to Mobil1 it STOPPED for few thousand miles. It's happening now again but it's also time to change my oil. It just makes me feel like it has to do with the oil. Blah! I remember someone saying they did the TSIB but it was still not fixed?

No its not coincidence ..... i saw the same results by topping up between oil changes. These cam positioners require oil and oil pressure to work properly ,,,, if the oil level was down a little, i got the noise on startup more often.
