My service advisor is aware that I am a car enthusiast, and that I am pretty much OCD over my vehicle. I think he realizes that I won't let them pull a fast one on me. Plus he's just a super guy.

But really, I have to say I have never had any issues with Lexus of Mobile. My service advisor has always been pleasant, helpful, and very informative. I'd reccomend this dealership to all my friends.

I don't think so, just two. Or so I was told. I haven't heard it again. Just the one time after the replacement controller. I'm going to wait till it happens a few more times before I take it back in. Very frustrating.

I would say that it is just two. Well, after not having my car for almost a week and now driving my car for three days I must say... the car is awesome!

No more noise.. it cranks quieter, it idles quieter, it seems to change gears better, and it doesn't run as loud. I'm not sure if the valve timing can having anything to do with that but the car is awesome. I'd say better than when I bought it. I will lists the part #s when I get home, as well as the gaskets they replaced. My only complaint was the gas pedal felt soft, I don't recall if it was like that before.. The GS350 I had felt much firmer. Oh well. If you hear that noise get it done, well worth it. Very happy.

Good update! I was hoping something might make our engines a bit quiter at least at idle. This is the loudest Lexus I've ever owned. But more important, I'm glad the grinding is virtually gone? Please post up all part numbers when you can. Just to confirm, it's essentially one part on each side of the cylinder banks? Again, thx a bunch!

That's GREAT information! Thanks a bunch! I've just emailed that info to my service tech! Please keep me posted on how it works.

Also, prior to having this done, did you notice the cranking noise upon EVERY start-up? Just cold starts etc?

Again, thx a bunch!

At first my cranking noise was every morning, and then progressively it was morning and then in the afternoon when I was leaving from work.

But now no noise at all, and its been several days. Very happy.

Well after emailing off the link to my sound byte, a few weeks back, to Lexus (Canada), I got a call from a generic Lexus “customer representative” last week ,,,,, and from the local service manager today. He agreed the sound was not normal but had NO suggestion as to what it was.

Dropped the car off tonight and they will try and reproduce the noise over the next few days, starting it every few hours. They need a TECH to witness the sound before any work will be done …… makes sense.

Thats a shame. I can't believe they can't look into problems happening in their part of the world. Its obvious people in the US are having this issue. I'd keep pushing it.

The cranking noise seems to occur most when its about time for an oil change and the car has been sitting for 4+ hours.

FYI, some dealers are saying it's the idler tensioner for the timing belt. Does that make sense?
