Default dash lights

not sure if this has been discussed somewhere, but i just found this out recently. while driving during the day and going from daylight to shade (like crossing under a bridge or something) the dashboard lights will dim, and then when you reappear in sunlight, the dashboard lights will get bright again. i just thought that was neat.

Its weird that you guys like it, because it annoys the hell out of me. There should be fev second delay between transitions. When I drive at dusk under overpasses in traffis, my headlights and dash light do the on, off, on, off thing and I think its bad for xenons, so Im forced to have my headlight switched to ON all the time.

regards, Bart.

In my previous Nissan Murano, the service dept can change the setting the delay time with the OBD tools. I think, I asked for the delay time to be changed from 1 sec to the max of 8 sec. So, if the light sensor is not detecting light for 8 seconds, it will turn on the xenon...and vice versa.

Does such setting exist in our 2IS for the dashboard light perhaps?

you can turn the dimmer switch all the way to the right to make it stay bright during dusk conditions so it doesn't constantly change back n forth. i do that in the morning when it's still a lil dark out n i need my headlights on.

You can change the sensitivity of the light sensor. Look in your manual.

Sort of related question. Normally when I drive I have the dash light switch set to full brightness and then turn it down manually when it gets dark out. The other night when I was driving with the switch on the lower setting, the dash suddenly went to the bright setting and then back down to dim. At the same time my lights which were running on auto and on night mode, switched off. Now my dash will not switch to bright regardless of lighting mode. I believe it may have something to do with the light sensor as the levels of light/darkness that the auto lights switch on and off at don't seem the same. Any ideas so I can guide my tech guy? I had it in today but he wasn't too sure as he's only been working there for 5 months and hasn't come across this problem yet.

that's why they let you click the dimmer wheel all the way to day mode...

Not really. You can have your LPS changed for sensitivity as to when the headlights come on--but it won't impact the dimming of the dash lights.
