Default HID and DTRL questions

Hi, I was wondering if after market HIDs are a lot brighter than the stock ones we get from the dealer...and also, will the after market hids work together with our ballasts/setup?

Questions about Day Time Running Lights:
Is there a way to turn off the function?
Can we replace the bulb to more of a faint white/blue looking color?
I've seen someone with a VERY faint blue bulb at night...just don't know what kind of bulb and watt it is.

The Stock HID got more light output than any other aftermaket HIDs I think... My one has great color temp output but less light output than the stock HID... DTRL are you talking about the High beam or the parking light? The high beam is H7 type and the parking light is M10(194)...

So we can pretty much run any bulb with our setup and nothing will go wrong, right?

highbeam is a pain to change.. and since it only give half wattage during day no matter what bulb you get it wont be bright, parking light in the other hand can be changed easily.. use a search. their was a thread on this already.

Lexus Service department can have your DTRL turned off. It will take no longer than 5 min.

As for the parking light all you will need to do is remove the plastic covers and the cover behind the headlight. Twist it out and pop out the bulb. Now the fun part is deciding which 194 bulb to put in. Im currently using a 5 led refractor bulb which gives a clean white / blue light.

Actually the Stock D4S bulbs that lexus uses has higher light output than any available aftermarket HID kit. Lexus uses phillips new xeneco low mercury bulbs, which require even less wattage to light up. Sure there are kits with higher color temperature, but higher color temp doesnt mean higher lumens output. 6000k and 8000k may look brighter, but in actuality they are putting out less light, about 3000-2800 lumens compared to lexus's 4300k and 3200 lumens output. So if you want a brighter light stick with the OEM HID's...if you want more of a tuner look go with aftermarket lights. Remember to get a 6000k or 8000k kit.

i've been looking for some aftermarket d4s bulbs to try and match my low beams with my parking light and fogs (both a bluish tint). i was looking at piaa, but they don't even have one in the works yet. so where are you guys with hid-equipped 2IS getting the d4s bulbs? thanks ahead!

There is no D4S kit available that I know of...people who are upgrading their HID's are most likely getting the D2S and D2R conversion HID kits (which are the older style HID bulbs). I'm going to wait until they start producing xeneco D4S kits, that way lexus will have trouble telling if it's an aftermarket or OEM setup. be on the lookout for the 8000k xeneco's. It should look hella tight on my crystal white IS w/ yellow POLARG fogs.

P.S. Xenonvalot does have D4S bulbs available, but there is not D4S ballasts or igniters available. I was told that if you swapped the 4300k D4S bulbs out of the lexus and replaced them with any other D4S bulb, it would simply burn out the harness. maybe im wrong. perhaps the technician meant if I tried to swap out the D4s bulb for a d2s bulb it would burn out the harness because the D4S requires less wattage to ignite.
