Hardwire Escort Passport 8500
Ive tried to search but havent had any luck trying to find a hardwire solution for an Escort 8500. Looking at V1 procedures, I can just get a regular phone cord and hook it up to the rear view mirror. Is the procedure similar to hardwiring with an 8500? Any help would be geatly appreciated. Oh, I have a 2nd gen IS.

posting in the 2IS forums too, you don't say? I would've figured you had an LS or something. lol. sorry had to make a poke at cha.
anyway, yeah the hardwire procedures are typically the same, there should be a hardwire kit available for your 8500 check on it and get one, then just follow the power ground and cable running techniques on the V1 guide.

lol, yea I guess I wasnt paying attention. I got the escort hardwiring kit already. Can I run the wire to the rear view mirror? The wire is really long, and I was wondering if I could use a regular phone cord like the V1.

i don't know what kind of connectors your radar detector uses, but here's what i would do you if you have an excess of wire. plug into detector, then run wire to where you want to tap-in (ie: review mirror area), and just trim off the excess. Once you get ready to splice in you just need bare wire, so trimming it isn't an issue of wire type / connectors etc. Just cut it bro.

Thanks for the info. I was able to tap the wire into the rearview mirror. Except there is a plastic piece attached to the hardwire. I am thinking it is the fuse. Is the fuse necessary? Would I be able to just use the wire without the fuse?

i recommend keeping the fuse, what you can do if the fuse is near the end of your length of cable is trim out the extra wire from the middle, and just splice the fuse holder back onto the end.
