Keyless entry and ignition is great
Where do you put the manual key if the key fob runs out of battery? I've been thinking about that ever since I saw this post.

You put it in the keyhole in the driver's door to gain access to the car.

Once inside, you place the fob near the ENGINE START TOP button and I believe press the button after placing the fob near the push button start.

Hopefully someone can confirm what I said cause with my Prius, I just slot the smart key into the dash lol. The newer Toyota/Lexus cars with SKS/SmartAccess don't have a slot for the fob.

There is a plastic cover on the door handle that pops off, exposing a conventional lock cylinder.

As for the ignition, Nextourer is right, hold the fob next to the button, since the fob supports passive RFID if the battery dies.

So, even though the battery is completely dead and you take out the battery, as long as you hold the key fob over the button, it'll be okay to start.

Haven't tested it, but it should work. With passive RFID, the reader generates a strong electromagnetic field that induces a current in a coil in the fob.

Most electric toothbrushes are charged this way. No direct electrical connection -- the charging base induces a current in a coil in the toothbrush handle.

Is there actually a place on the door for the key to go?

As I said in post #18, a few inches above your question, "There is a plastic cover on the door handle that pops off, exposing a conventional lock cylinder."

Thanks! That was very imformative. I have an electric toothbrush and the keyless, and was wondering how it worked

I wonder how much radiation the start button and my smart key, (bluetooth, GPS, cellphone etc. too) generates...
