I just got rolls of 5% tint computer precut to fit the 2IS windows for my IS250 from a local tint shop. I've tinted several cars before so I know how it is done. (And besides I am a DIY kind of person.) The shop charged me half of their regular cost for the precut tint. Hopefully I won't need to use a heat gun too much when I install the tint tonight and tomorrow.

I didn't even think those guns got much hotter than a hair dryer, but oh well..
They're not supposed to use it directly on the moulding. They probably just got it too close and held it there for too long.

One of the main uses of these heat guns is to remove paint off various surfaces before repainting/refinishing.

I just spoke with my tinter, who I've known for about 10 years and 4 different cars and he said he did not use the heat gun on the side windows and I'm inclined to believe him due to the honesty he's exhibited in the past.

Also, if I didn't believe him then I'd be the first to insist on him paying for the replacement.

So what else could cause this?

Title changed to reflect that it may or may not have been the tint shop.

One way to tell if a heat gun was used or not is whether you noticed any moisture in between the tint and windows when you got the car back.

Some places don't use heat guns and it takes at least a couple/few days for the moisture to dry out depending on the time of year. If your side windows were dry and you picked it up the same or next day, he used a heat gun.

They still had moisture and they dried out in about a day or so - central Florida is having really really hot weather currently so its 90+ consistently.

That's why I say no tint at all. With your problem I think its the tinter's fault. Have em replace it. Ofcourse they will always try to deny that they did it. . GL

Seeing that picture of your car confirms why no tint shop is touching my baby. Standard tint will have to do.

Go to Wilde Lexus! They won't mess it up and TP looks so nice with tint!

Damn, just got my tint done today and one of my pillars got messed up Brought it up to the tint guy today and he said he would talk to his Lexus guy and see if there's anything he can do... Hopefully everything is gonna work out.

Anyone know how much it would cost to get one pillar? Front right door.

Why would Lexus do anything about it, if the tint guy messed it up?!? Tinters must be really stupid as this seems to happen on 1 out 5 people on this forum.

It shouldn't cost you a penny...

The tint shop must cover it for you all the way... as it's their screw up...

Do you have any pics???

Just wondering if it looks like the burnt pillars posted by the original thread creator..

One pillar = 39.93. Installation should be a simple snap in snap out.
