Four beeps?

Does anyone know the significance of four beeps upon grabbing the door handle?

This happened last night, after returning from dinner. Usually, when grabbing the door handle, the car beeps twice and unlocks. This time it beeped four times.

How many drinks did you have at dinner?

lol..I think mine has done that too but I figured, hrmm must be excited to see me again.

Do our car's have any kind of factory alarm on them? Maybe it went off while you were at dinner...

I believe the car does have an alarm, and one of the reasons that I posted this question is a fear that it might have gone off. However I see no evidence that anyone tapped me or tried to break into the car, so I guess it remains a mystery.

Four Beeps instead of Two

Bichon,

Although I don't know the significance of the four beeps instead of two, it has happened to mine a few times as well. It's been a while since the last time. As best as I remember, the four beep scenario occured following a delay in which the car sensed my hand grabbing the handle, so I eased up lightly and re-grabbed it. I figured maybe it was some kind of sensitivity issue, or delayed reaction, thus the additional beeps. To be honest, it's still a mystery to me as well.

Perhaps I ought to plead the 5th on that one :p , but not enough that I wouldn't know the difference between two beeps and four.

SportyStar:I don't think I double-grabbed, although I had a passenger and it's possible that she grabbed the passenger handle at roughly the same time as I grabbed the driver's one.

Whatever the reason, I'm reassured that this has happened to others, with no apparent problem.

mine got 4 beeps too today. it was after parking the car and shutting the engine off ,walked out. and before i reached for the remote to lock the car i got 4 beeps :uh:

TheRupp 03-05-06 10:57 AM

Usually that means that it unlocked all 4 doors instead of just the driver's, but upon reading other experiences I'm not so sure :uh:

I have mine set to unlock all four doors (via the door handle) every time, and it usually beeps twice.

I have mine set (dealer) to open all doors using fob. I can't find anyway to have all doors unlock by touching door handle.

Anyone know how that can be done?

Yes. Read page 6 of your owners manual.
