this is what i've been wanting to do since i got my car.. find a way to have apple's front row running on the nav screen.. i was waiting for the new mac mini's to try and find a way.. anyone know if this would work on the is nav? or does this only work because of the hybrid computer on the prius? i'm not too good at this stuff, i just know that i want it!!!!

From the article "The first thing I needed was video in."

If you can discover a video-in[put] on the ML Nav, then it can be done. Macmini with Front Row is a hack now and no a guarantee in the future. The new macmini might not be out for a long, long time either.

I'm working on installing the old macmini in my IS using a touchscreen.....this is a huge project I'm not even sure I want to try it (is it worth it?)

I don't have a macmini at this time, but I'd get the new intel-based mac mini when/if it comes out for this purpose. could also try and hook up a powerbook.

so the plan was to upgrade to an intel g5 which would free up my macmini to be hacked and installed in the IS....but if the intel macmini comes out first, got rethink the whole deal.

there's front row and the new os and my old macmini needs to be hacked with a superdrive and overclocked....too many unknowns.

There are plenty of good run throughs for a car based computer on mp3car.com

I ran a voice activated 1 ghz PIII under the seat of my matrix for about a year that handled mp3, movie, nav, weather updates, etc. Worked pretty well except I needed a way to cut the sound when you wanted to use voice commands... I kept having lyrics in the songs that were too close to commands doing random things like going to the web, the weather, or skipping songs. Fun project though.

That is correct. I love my Mac Mini and it has WiFi in it.

Cheers,
