Bought my preowned 2006 IS350 3 mos ago with 127k now at 130k miles. Original owner kept it super clean, dealer serviced, and all recalls were done. Ive modified it since then. I love the car--sporty, fast, looks good, with Toyota reliability! The only concern is oil consumption--about 1 quart every 2000 miles--but Lexus says its normal.

This car is a long term keeper!

Just hit 151k miles. Just changed the valve cover gaskets, probably didn't need to. I was losing oil but no leak detected. So must just be engine age. I do have oil on spark plug threads. So oil is getting there somehow.

Oil on spark plug threads is a sign of a leaky valve cover gasket. Im about to reach 190k and still running great and i drive it very hard.

are you talking about the valve cover gasket itself? Or the spark plug seals?
I thought the valve cover gasket was supposed to keep oil from leaking out from the valve cover to the outside.

That's right, it is the spark plugs seals. Might as well replace both at the same time though.

Good to see these cars can hold up well. Are you having oil consumption at 190K miles?

Another note--before I bought my IS350 3 mos ago I had a 2002 Tundra that I sold with 260K miles and it ran like new! No oil burning, engine and trans still going strong. When I posted the for sale ad my phone blew up with people wanting to buy it--a testament to how reliable and durable Toyota is! I expect my IS350 to be equally as reliable and durable!

I have 180K. No Major issues, beside the Lexus recall on "Cam Gears" which actually did render non-operable.

Same Issues everyone has:
1. Oil being burnt 2-3 qtz every 5k (is350)
2. Some white smoke after car sits for long periods of time.

Long Term:
1. The piston rings could go after 200k?
2. The water pump needs to be replaced
3. The belts will be done
4. Ball bearings are still going strong
5. Long term oil burn damage?
6. Tranny is getting old

If i go out to the races often ittle use about a quart and a half throughout that oil change. If i behave myself ittle only consume half to 1 quart. I believe these motors and trannys are good to about 250k (3.5). I dont think the is250 will make it that far as their carbon issues are sure to shorten that lifespan. When i first got it at 130k it was like a brand new car. Now at 190k the drivetrain comes off as if it had 100k. Everything else mechanical on the car behaves as new. Best car ive ever owned. Parts changed have been valve cover gaskets done with the vvti recall, alternator, battery, and the starter. When i got it the waterpump was leaking and after doing a coolant flush with new toyota fluid it seemed to revitalize the seal because the leaking went away and ive never had to change the wp in the 60k miles ive had it

Cool. I got my IS350 at 126K miles its like new, but is using about 1 qt oil every 1500 miles. I don't mind adding oil. I just started a new thread about the long term durability of these engines. As with any Lexus/Toyota engine, I expect it to run almost forever with no issues, however the oil consumption concerns me--will it get worst to the point where the engine is done??

I've put 146k miles on my 2010 IS 250 AWD since new and have no oil consumption issues.

I keep getting scared driving it because I have never owned a car with over 100k miles. I keep telling myself I am going to drive her until she dies as she is a work car and I put a out 30k miles per year on it.

I figure once I reach 200k I could sell her?

Eff....IDK.....she has the ultra luxury package with the buttery soft semi-aniline leather and the interior literally looks and smells brand new. Every time someone gets in or details my car they don't believe me that she has almost 150k miles on her. So IDK what to do.....

If the car is in good running condition keep it and drive it. Lexus/Toyota are known to have very long lasting engines. The previous post showed an IS250 with 277K miles--I called the seller and its for real. Before my IS350 I had a 2002 Tundra with 260K miles and it was still going strong!
