I was looking for the same thing not necesarily for the phone because I agree it will mute the stereo when a call is being made but say I wanted to mute the stereo if I was talking to someone in the car. Instead of turning the volume all the way down is there a mute button function. I have not been able to find one.

I don't have Nav or ML, but there is definitely a "mute" button on the stock system

The thing I have noticed for the voice on the nav is that it only comes out of the driver side speaker. You can control the volume of that speaker by going into the volume setting. That being said, if your stereo volume is up to a loud setting, you will still have a hard time hearing it because the remaining speakers still play music while the Nav is giving you your directions.

Not trying to be a smart-***, but I just hit the "OFF" button as my "Mute". Much easier just to "punch" the **** to instantly kill the stereo. Sure there's a small delay when you turn back "ON" ("Un-Mute"), but it's a lot better than fooling with the **** to get the volume turned down.

Cheers,
Kermee

Just press and hold the MODE button on the steering wheel. Doesn't anyone read the manual.

Actually, that turns off the audio system, same as pressing the power switch on the radio.

Default Mute Audio for Nav Voice Guidance?

Greetings

I'm a new 2012 IS350 owner. I thought I would resurrect this thread since there's been a number of model years since the last post.

I noticed that I could be cruising down the highway jamming to tunes when at some point nav voice guidance would be given. My problem is that I sure have a hard time hearing it. On my last car the radio would mute but that doesn't appear to happen here. Is it safe to assume that after 5 or so model years it still does not mute for Nav voice guidance?

I know that I can change the speaker from "center" to "driver" but that's not the answer. I also know that I can set the voice guidance volume but that would be kind of loud particularly when no audio is playing.

I've been through the "manual" but no joy there so I thought I would ask here.

Thanks

Paul

OK, I did discover that if you hit the "Map/Voice" button after the voice guidance that I failed to hear it will repeat the guidance. This was a sidebar in the 2012 IS350 Nav manual (page 92).
