Default So many negative threads

Maybe it's just me, but I'm really getting tired of seeing all these negative threads about the IS. A small sampling of thread titles over the past day...

CD's Skipping!!!
IS 350 Wood Scratches
Pulling to Right
Windshield wiper mark
Creaky Steering Wheel
Just picked up my IS 350. Love it, but a couple minor concerns
DVD's won't play???
Illuminated Scuff lights not on - Help with Advise
Body kit Help!!
Steering wheel noise and the shifter is making a pop sound

We're supoose to be the ones that LIKE Lexus. If I were someone that was undecided about buying one, I think I'd turn and run after seeing so many negatve posts. I'm not saying some of these aren't happening, but many of them are user error. Don't just post negative stuff, and THEN do a search or read the manual. My my 2 cents, had to vent.

It is not that we don't like the car, but is this not a forum to report both the things you love about your car and also the problems that you are experiencing. Personally I appreciate hearing about problems with the car. I actually heard about the recall for the AWD here before I heard from my dealer. In my opinion, keep posting....................good or bad. In addition, I purchased the car, so I obviously like it.

This is typical for any of the 10 new cars I have bought. Internet forums are full of reports of problems by owners, mainly looking to see if others have had the same problem seeking help.

Nothing new at all. Lexus owners may be a bit more demanding then the average say Honda Civic owner.

IMHO, the IS is not the perfect car. No car is perfect. Since it's the first model year of the new IS, there are going to be some problems that will need to be fixed. This is true for all cars. These threads bring attention to these problems and people will notice them on their cars and complain to their dealers who will report the common problems to Lexus who will correct the problems. These negative threads are good and productive.

Good points. But I do think a lot of the knee-jerk threads are due to the lack of due dilligence on the part of the user. RTFM in most cases, or misuse in a few of the others, and then a very small percentage of ACTUAL problems.

We are? Guess my check from Lexus marketing must have been lost in the mail.

I thought this was a forum to discuss the 2nd gen IS, not to promote it. If I were undecided about the IS, I'd want to hear the truth about the car: an unbiased look at what owners are happy and unhappy about. Overall, I'd say we're a pretty happy lot.

Sure there have been some unfair shots at the car by people who haven't read the manual. But there have also been posts from some Lexus apologists minimizing and making excuses for some pretty careless and shoddy dealer service. It all balances out in the end.

Almost ditto.... I'd just say it's not quite balanced. I think there are a lot of peops here that are very pro lexus biased, and emotionally attached... definitely not objective. Especially when I read threads about the IS losing to BMW in comparisons, reviews, etc.

I bought the IS, and although I think it is a great car... I miss my BMW 325xi. I love the IS's power and the interior, but beyond that, it's lost it's novelty, and I wish I bought a BMW instead. They may have their quirks, but it's worth it IMO. That said, I'm not going to dwell on the regrets... and just enjoy the IS for what it is—a fast, exceptional car. One I'd take any day over any other car near it's class... except the bmw.

There's always a flood of posts whenever a new car comes out. Goes with the territory. Mostly its because the car is so new and especially with this car I think some people's first Lexus ownership experience so people have a lot of questions. It will die down soon and shift to the GS450h and new ES next. Many people posting here are new to the forums as well and I'm sure they appreciate the kindness and help they receive from other posters who've been here awhile. We can all share good information in a positive way. Eventually some people will go away and some will stay, the ones who stay will be the ones who help out future members with their own expertise. That's what makes Club Lexus so great.

Agreed. I think the forum is a great place for prospective buyers (like I was) to find out everything that is wrong with the car, as well as the positives. In fact I'd say the negatives are more important than the positives, if the site is to provide a service rather be part of the Lexus marketing department.

I never thought about it until now, but the % of posts where people say they purchased a different car is pretty low...

Keep up the posts that discuss negatives with the car, lets learn from these posts and appreciate the fact that somebody took the time to post them. We DO NOT need posts to tell us how cool or how great the car is. We know that from owning it and driving it, though I will conceed that they have great value for prospective buyers as well.

Dave

ps, was waiting for my wife in front of the supermarket yesterday, watching the Stones 40 licks DVD, blasting at around 50. WOW, what a great audiovisual experience.

Maybe the people with nothing to complain about are having too much fun driving the car to sit down behind a computer screen and write something positive.
