Quote: I have installed this Hack as described on the first few pages along with grounding the red wire for the DVD hack, and the DVD works while moving, etc... as described. So all the “hack” features I have tested work.

Here’s the problem. My NAV is wondering off course while I drive. I think this could be due to some differences on the 2007, but I’m not sure. Is the speed wire different, could it have gotten loose? I have a lot of experience with electronics, soldering, and working on cars, so I am fairly sure all the wires were connected correctly.

I have re-calibrated my location on the NAV once and it worked for a while, but when I get on the highway near my home, it seems to loose me. I am going to re-calibrate again, and go for a drive to see what happens.

Any suggestions would be great. Has this happened to anyone else?

Lexellent could you responded to some possible changes in the 2007 model?

Thanks,
Can you enter destinations while moving? If so, then you've cut the speed wire and did something wrong or your connections are loose.

No I cant enter destinations while moving. My volume still adjusts when slowing down or speeding up.

Just went for another drive and it worked. I will try again tomorrow.

Anything else it could be? Before I open it back up, I want to make sure it might not be somthing else. But a loose wire is a good thought. Anyone else do this on an 07' model? How about you Lexellent, any issues like this?

Thanks Technique!

ok i've been trying to keep up with this thread for a while, left it alone and its pages are in the 20s?! i'm guessing people are having problems with it.

anyways, so this mod still doesn't allow address input while in motion correct? basically in-motion dvd and mp3 folder selection are enabled correct?

Lexellent will be the one to help you the most since he did the 07 hack. But, we haven't heard from him in a few days.

Do me a fabor, take lots of pictures for us. Good pictures that show all of the harness wires, etc... That way we can check if there are any differences in the 07.

Great dvd/nav hack
Thanks for the info on this hack I have IS220d SE(UK) with ML.
I am not technical at all but this still only took 1 hour great instructions and pictures.
All the expected functions are now operable on the move including DVD playback.

Tip, mask off around the dash and cover the leather the burrs on the sheet metal at the rear of the unit is really sharp. I have the scars to prove it!

'07 Hack Experience

Yes, I have been MIA for a week or so.

This is what I learned from the hack.

I performed the hack exactly as described in this thread. I made the mistake of trusting it to work correctly so I re-installed everything. WRONG! I got the jumpy (almost a ratchet like activity in the Nav screen, could not watch a DVD while driving, and could not access the folders for my iPod while driving. I had also placed a switch in the pink wire to allow for address input while driving. That did not work as well.

I opened everything back up and put it back to stock. Went for a test drive and all was well again. This time I cut the pink wire. I did not connect either end to anything. I left the white/silver dot wire intact and I grounded the red wire to the chasis. Went for another test drive. This time I could watch DVD, I could access the MP3 folders, the nav worked (Although, there is a very mild ratchet movement very similar to that of a gear driven watch and it is on a 1 second interval. I could not remember what was nornal at this point. I called my brother who has an ES 350 and on a non-hacked car his had the same activity. I assume it is OK.) with no straying of the nav.

I came back into my shop and cut the white/ silver dot wire and attached the harness side of it to the harness side of the pink together and immed went back to stray nav, no DVD, no folder access.

For the last 2 weeks my configuration has been cut pink with both ends capped, withe/silver intact and red grounded on the connector end and the harness end capped. This is working fine. No problems. Of course I still can not enter destinations on the move. I am still trying to think this one through since the speed sensor wire is now cut ant I still can't.

While inside I did perform the hack for switching the rear camera on while in Drive or Park. That works well. Like Ken had posted earlier in this or perhaps the rear camera thread, I see no real advantage of having it other than JUST doing it because I could. This hack is posted in another thread with a schematic.

Incidentally, I installed the VaisTech unit during this same time. It is great! One thing I would like to re-state, and I believe it may have been Ken who discovered this earlier and posted on it, Make sure you push the connectors from Vais Tech VERY FIRMLY into the receiver. The plug they supplied is not as good, IMHO, as the OEM plug and does not lock into position well. I discovered this on Thursday as I was demo'ing the stero to a friend when the stereo went dead. The dash lights for the ML receiver went out, no volume, no steering wheel controls, but yet I could still hear my iPod playing at a very muted volume. This morning I went back into the dash to find the connector of the "Y" harness for Vais had worked itself loose. Quick fix and all is well. I am getting pretty fast at getting in and back out quickly.

I am interested in hearing what other '07 "hackers" find in their cars. As well, I am still interested in finding a way to easily enter addresses on the fly.

Hope this helps.

BTW, I posted a request a week or two ago in a more general forum here about how to upload photos. I have not figured this out and would appreciate any tutorial assistance for this.

Thanks.

This doesn't make any sense... I thought that someone confirmed that the wires/harness were exactly the same as on a 2006? If that's the case, this is very strange... Well, I'm glad you got the hack working...

Have you tried it with both the pink and white cut? (but not connected together)

I agree, it makes no sense. Just for grins, today I again tied the pink and the white with silver dots wires together. I got the same negative result as before. No, I have not tried it with both wires cut and capped. If I have to go back in again, I will give that a try. It is my understanding that the wire harness is indeed the same as the '06. I can not explain this.

Something else also to try is leaving both the pink and white cut, and see if you can enter destinations while moving.

Pink and silver /whire?
Thanks for the reply Lexellent!

Well, I have been driving mine for a week, and the NAV looses me every once in a while!! I have had to re-calibrate my location 4 times.

I have the silver/white and pink together, red grounded, and the others capped as described in the hack... everthing works, but I still have the problem with the NAV loosing me.

I am going to try reconecting the silver/white wire (speed wire?) together and see if it works as described by Lexellent. If it does, this should be the NEW hack sequence for 07's.

Any other suggestions before I get everthing open again? Lex, is your nav working as smoothly as stock with the setup your currently running?
Thanks,

Can you enter destinations while moving? Do you have "jumpy" nav?
