ATF Fluid Sweating from Bolt Above Transmission Pan - IS350 (DIY Help Needed)
Hey everyone,
I'm dealing with a frustrating ATF fluid leak on my Lexus IS350 and hoping to get some advice from experienced owners or mechanics here.
Initially, I thought the leak was from the transmission refill plug, which would’ve been a simple fix. But after removing the plastic cover, I discovered the fluid is actually sweating from a bolt located just above the transmission pan and right below the refill plug.
The tricky part is that this bolt doesn’t seem to be removable or serviceable. From my research and inspection, it looks like replacing the transmission would be the “official” solution, which is obviously not ideal.
Since I’m attempting a DIY fix, I’m looking for practical alternative solutions to stop or slow down this leak without replacing the whole transmission.
Has anyone faced this issue on their IS350 or similar Lexus models?
Possible Solutions I'm considering:
Using a high-temp thread sealant or RTV around the bolt area (though access is a bit tight)
Cleaning and applying a specialized ATF-compatible epoxy sealant
Maybe even trying a JB Weld solution as a temporary fix
I'd really appreciate any suggestions, success stories, or recommendations from fellow DIYers, Lexus techs, or anyone who’s tackled a similar issue.
Picture attached for reference.
Thanks in advance! The dey refill plug and sweating around the unremovable bolt makes me thing its the bolt. Evidence Closeup
