Default engine replacement

What is the average cost of an engine replacement on a 2012 IS 250?
1. it started with no heat and coolant low
2. replace the coolant hose, worked but then it didn't - kept an eye on coolant level... coolant will disappear, and the cool/hot level started to misread
3. took it back the mechanic, replace the thermostat - issue continue after I picked up the car.
4. took it back and the mechanic says - a new engine. My car had 160,000 miles.... I got a 2nd opinion.

2nd opinion - I need to replace the engine.
I love my car and I rather replace my engine vs. getting a car payment.

It could be a blown head gasket.

Did either shop tell you what was exactly wrong with the engine?

OP I can't answer your question as it varies by region. I'm only going to state that as you do your research, 06 to 2015 4GR-FSE and trans is a bolt it. As is 3GR-FSE 3liter. So if you find a 3GR-FSE w less miles or cheaper shipping, its an option. I suspect if RWD and comes with A960E, it is also a bolt in to 2015 but no proof. Just don't buy an FKS, only FSE.

Thank you.... it was a blown head gasket. Unfortunately, my engine was not as lucky as others.

So are you going to replace the head gasket or are you getting a whole new engine?
