accelerator pedal mod
Hey guys, I saw a youtube video yesterday talking about gas pedal mod that i never knew about. then I found the link in the other forum and got to working on it today! I did the same thing removing the spring and put a zip tie in the rubber part. What I found interesting and was mentioned in several posts in the other forum was adjusting the throttle cable was tricky.
If I was to simply remove all the slack where the spring used to be at the throttle body area, then the pedal travel would be shortened where the pedal does not touch the resting area behind the pedal. This would end up putting all the foot pressure at WOT to the cable and throttle body and probably break something over some time.
If I was to adjust the cable at the throttle body to where the pedal rests on the pad behind the pedal on WOT, it would be good at protecting the cable and throttle body from being damaged. But the subsequent slack on the throttle cable would be worse would be completely loose and initial pressure would just sink right in till the slack is gone.
the OP just took up the space where the spring used to be with a hose and more zip tie but that also meant WOT would not result in pulling the TB all the way open.
I saw only 2 ways to fix this problem. 1. If all the slack was removed, additional thickness needs to be added to the pad behind gas pedal to stop the pedal travel beyond the full extension of the TB motion. The pad isnt exactly smooth to add material to easily and it isnt an area that is often compressed, so the chances of the added material would fall off. 2. Leave slack where gas pedal bottoms out properly, adjust the gas pedal position until all slack is gone and insert+glue a round padding over the stock resting pad. The overall initial position of the gas pedal is slightly sunken in, but no slack and wont damage the throttle body and cable!
took me a half an hour to look this whole thing over and figure out a solution to my liking. test drove it today and i couldnt really tell the initial gas pedal position was any different. I do feel some vibrations through the pedal when I drive now, but I love that I can be much more precise in rev matching than before!
hope what I wrote makes sense.
