Question Weird shifting - help?

I don't know if anyone else has this problem or noticed this.

Sometimes when I try to put the car into 1st it will not engage - it will go maybe 1/5 way and then it feels like it's locked out (this is while I'm standing still, ie at a traffic light). It feels like the same "lock out" feeling when you try to engage reverse sometime.

The problem goes away as soon as I take my foot of the clutch and wiggle the stick left and right once or twice. Then in goes the clutch and then the 1st gear engages.

Anyone expierience the same thing?

The same thing happens sometimes when I'm crusing and I want to put it into 3rd gear. I get the same lockout feeling. I have to wiggle the stick once or twice and then put it into 3rd.

Anyone expierience the same thing?

Would a short shifter solve this problem for me? I noticed that the throws a bit long and that there is some "freeplay" on the stick (not much but enough to notice) - I heard that a short shifter would make that go away?

I would talk to your dealer now about it. I know that other 5spd owners have had tranny issues. I would bring it to their attn now before something major happens.
