So heres my update, so far...
4 female connectors crumpled... all have been replaced.
APPS female housing
TPS female housing
Throttle Motor female housing
VVTI female housing or Oil control valve housing
Cleaned the entire Air Intake filter system
Cleaned the MAF, throttle body, surrounding connectors
replaced a broken PCV hose
checked the EFI relay
cleaned connections on the battery.
4 new tires.
still intermittent idle drops... but when it doesnt go into the failsafe mode... its driving like a dream!
i was able to get rid of the P2121 code and 3 other brake issue codes.
just have these 3 still remaining, but i have to run the scanner again.
P0031
P0430
P2127

Update!!
I fixed her!!!
Today I put in a new PCV valve and hose and the last of the throttle codes are gone!
I will be replacing the O2 sensors in the near future, but the ETSi system is all better!
She drove like a dream .... so smooth, the idle was normal and calm.
I am so pleased with the progress I’ve made!
This is the first actual “engine work” I’ve done on a car.
Its been a learning curve these last few weeks, and I’ve learned a bunch!

Bummer
Well she drove great this morning and then fell back into safe mode.
Going to pigtail the TPS and APPS with new connectors and see if that finally solves the problem.
Last I checked she isn’t throwing a code for the Throttle, only for the O2 sensors.
Better check again!

My understanding is that the throttle sensors and the o2 sensors are heavily tied into how the auto trans works. If anything is "wrong" with any of that the trans can go into limp mode like mine did when the o2 sensor died on it.
Turbo'ing the stock engine on these car is a pita.... I did it, but it wasn't easy or straight forward.... and there was no "good" guide out there to follow either. Everything documented was for SRT kits that they used to sell.

Yes. I would be highly surprised if fixing the o2 sensor errors doesn't fix the car. Toyota did a good job of making this car the kind that runs great when it thinks everything is right and pretty bad when any little thing is wrong.

Hi!
She’s driving great. The check and trac off came back on... code is P0430
i definitely have an exhaust leak.
im going to take your advice and clean the VVTi solenoid. Do I need a new gasket for this?
I’m also getting some AutoPro Dye - leak detector.
Because I’m a resin artist, I have a few UV lights, so I thought of seeing about using my UV light last night and looked it up... and found out that this is one way people detect leaks, so I’m going to give it a go.

Yes the dye is a good idea for coolant/oil. I've never used it on anything else. I just bought a new VVTI solenoid because mine was actually going bad and getting stuck in it's bore intermittently. When this happens your car will drive like doo doo.
