Why am I getting only 137 Miles on a FULL TANK on my 2001 lexus is300
 

Hey guys, so for some reason my 2001 lexus is300 is only getting 137 a gallon. I floor it a bunch but I still shouldn't be getting that terrible gas millage. Its completly stock!
PLEASE HELP!!

Hi Supremies. Any fault codes?? Have you tried cleaning the air mass sensor? I found many times that a air mass with a dust clogged onto the sensors sender wire (for a lack of a better word) :D on the inside of the sensor causes bad fuel consumption. Especially when a cone type air filter is used. Take the sensor out of the intake pipe, spray the sensor with electric contact cleaner, blow it dry with VERY LOW air pressure at a distance of about 30 Cm away from the sensor, and put it back. Make sure you put the unit back the correct way around as the air flow over the air mass is in one direction only. Make sure your air filter is clean. Hope this helps.:D

I've had mine less than a month but I think you might have answered your own question there. Just think yourself lucky you're not paying nearly $6 per gallon like me :cry:

Hey Guillaume, thanks a lot. Now I'm trying to drive normal without manual mode and I get 200 per tank. Its better than before but still not bad. I checked the filter and it looks nasty. So imma get a better one. And also clean out the sensor. Thanks a lot!

My mileage was down too along with a few other issues. I pulled the MAF sensor, cleaned it and ran a can of Seafoam through the gas tank. Car drives like new now and even managed to clear the CEL that was triggered by a bank 2 sensor 2 running lean (or so the car thought). Try doing the same on your car. It's an inexpensive maintenance routine that you can do before jumping into the larger cost repairs. Worst case scenario: the car runs the same as before and you're only out about $20 ($12 can of Seafoam, $8 can of electronic cleaner). Total repair time is about 15 minutes. I clean mine about once a year now and my '02 IS runs like new! Averaging about 19/25 mpg with 100k miles.
