My 3rd IS, I purchased was ran hot, no oil, no coolant. it actually blew out chunks of the head between the cylinders. Not a pretty sight.
My advice, get yourself a JDM 2jzge vvti from ebay for around $800 and install that. JDM engines typically have less mileage and are maintained better than some (not all) USDM engines. Do yourself a favor and replace all the seals and gaskets while the engine is out of the car and do some of the bigger maintenance on the engine before installation. Timing belt water pump, cam seals, crank seal, rear main, intake gasket, vc gaskets.
It's going to cost you around $1500 maybe a little more to do everything properly using OEM parts.
