Mileage too high to purchase? 200k What to expect.
Hello guys,
I was looking to purchase this SportCross IS300. Always loved this body style and it seems that this one was well taken care of. I never bought a car with this high mileage but I am a strong believer that Lexus makes a great product and it can do double the mileage if well taken care of.
Here is the AutoTrader link:
http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...adius=200&mmt=[LEXUS[IS300[]][]]&listingId=358757772&listingIndex=7&Log=0
What do you guys think? What should I expect to replace and what to check for?
Thanks!

Sportcrosses are hard to find, always wanted one.
200K on odometer is a lot, would suggest having or getting a spare lower mileage motor/trans on the side to swap or rebuild and drop in if and when you encounter problems. Or if you have space, a whole spare donor car. Easy when small stuff goes bad (TPS, ignitor, etc etc).
These cars are a money pit, but worth every penny and drop of sweat wrenching.
I went overboard with the hoarding, currently looking for another IS3 to work on and build since I have enough parts to build another one and then some.......

My first Is wasn't a money pit at all. Properly maintained these cars can last quite a while. My ex has a 99 Gs300 with over 250+k.
Timing belt and water pump should be your first steps along with cam seals. Then move on to rotating parts like brakes and bearings. My first is had all of the major service complexed thankfully. BUT my radiator did crack at the upper plastic. Tracking one down locally the day before thanks giving was a bit if a challange but the car was older (02) and it just reached its point. Not sure what part of Texas your in but a local dealer down by me has a sport cross for sale.
Deal n Doug's metairie is what you need to google.

I own a 2002 sportcross. got it with 173k and now I have 202k. It was taken care of and one owner. Im a mechanic and this car is easy to work on and super reliable. You will always find parts and turn heads. Good luck.

I just sold my 01 IS300 with 207k miles this past weekend. The motor was still strong, but the suspension was worn and I'd just been quoted about $2200 to change out all the parts that had reached or passed EOL. The first of the O2 sensors had just died too and the intermittent check engine light made me think that the others were soon to follow.
Of course, any car with that many miles is bound to cost you $$$ from time to time.
