I have a 2001 Auburn Sky IS300 that I'm looking to sell. So far I haven't been able to find this color IS for sale anywhere. What would you say is a fair price for the car? It's all stock, 120k mileage, excellent shape inside and out.

To give you an idea of what someone might be willing to pay, I bought mine with a like new interior, paint a 7/8 and all maintenance records from a Lexus dealer (including a timing belt job 2k before I bought it) since the car was new for $8500... It also has a factory limited slip and had almost new brand name tires, as well as the trunk spoiler... Those things I just listed made it worth the money, whereas I was seeing others with not the same options for quite a bit less...

As you can see in my signature, there were only 1348 of them ever built, and only in 2001, so, they are really rare...

A couple add-ons that didn't really command any more price included an aftermarket front grill, HID's in the fog lights, a TRD rear sway bar, EBC green pads all around, and tinted rear windows... (it also had body color matched headlights, but they were starting to turn color, so I replaced them with black ones)

I think I got a good deal on the car, giving everything I got along with it and the condition of the interior... Exterior could have been in a little bit better condition, but given the age, that might be hard...

I think the market is a little different up here in Seattle. I'm seeing 2001 IS300s with 150k miles for around 10k. Some dealers have 2002s with similar miles to mine for around 12-13k. I decided to list it at 12k and see what bites I get.

Nice car btw! I imagine there aren't too many clean ones left out there after 11 years.

That's kinda why there is a private party value and a retail value on Kelly blue book... Had I purchased this same car from a dealer, I would have expected to pay 2-4 more for it... Private party sales never get the same as dealer, for whatever reason... good luck with the sale..

Wow I've never heard of this OEM color before, and all this time I thought GGP was my fav. The car looks awesome.

Kelly Blue Book says $8,768 in excellent condition would be the price for your zip code for a non-dealer. Only 3% of cars are rated excellent and to be eligible, the car must be free from any defects or blemishes (paint scratches, windshield chips, wheel scuffs, worn interior, etc.) and have complete verifiable service records.

So, if you meet these criteria and have this rare color, I'd say around $9500 is reasonable ($8768 for the excellent condition car and $750 for the rarity of the color). If you have any blemishes or don't have a complete service history, your car is actually only " very good" condition and should get between $8500 and $9000.

Also, Craiglsist ads are ridiculous. Dealers mark up their vehicles $2-3k and then let people negotiate them down. Then all the private people start posting ads for teir cars at dealer prices, not understanding that dealers have overhead of land, buildings, licenses, salespeople, etc. As a private party, buyers will expect you to be somewhere in-between trade-in price and dealer retail. Once again, I'd target the $8500-9500 range depending on condition.

If the car is truly in excellent shape, I'd say 10k is a little more reasonable. However, if the car is in very good shape, then maybe 8k to 9k is probably good. Like someone said earlier, only 3% of cars are considered in excellent shape, so maybe take the kbb quiz and see if your car is considered in excellent condition. Btw, very nice ride.
