Default 01 is300 master key

i bought my is300 with just a valet key. i went to the dealer expecting to jus make a new master key using my vin. but of course the dealership said that with the 2001 is300 i have to change my ECU and door locks and some other stuff. wasnt really listening after he told me the cost which is about 3000 to get it done.

being in the car industry for a little while i know there are short cuts to everything.

so if anyone has any advice on how can i go about getting atleast a new master key for my car which out paying anything close to what the dealer is charging.

lol seriously all i want to be able to do is have 2 keys and be able to use the keyless entry festure ..

also in my situation is it possible to just get another valet key as a spare and put a viper 5701 security system with the remote start on my car.

Don't know if this helps, but maybe ordering the physical keys from Sewell and have the dealer program it? Think that would cut the cost down?

iirc i paid $200ish for remote and key. took title to lexus dealer. they cut it, program it, done. i assume i made the master key? works everywhere, remote, door, glove box, trunk. never heard about change/program ecu etc, or paying 3k, wow . maybe i should make 1 more just in case.

not exact key but look like this.

If all else fails, try advanced keys... Works better than stock key, and you'll have a push start button and will not need to have a key at all. & it will only cost you between $200-400, depends what set up you get. Check it out...

i did it through the lock smith, costed about 400dollars because i did not even have a key to even mold... (lost all keys when drunk), probably half the price if you are just getting a dupe

Okay the 2001 models are very hard to program for some reason. Up until about 1 year ago you would have been out of luck and need an ECU with keys.... but now days some dealers now have the technology to flash the 2001 models for new keys. I think its about $200 or more depending on if you buy the keys from them. I am not sure if auto locksmiths can do the 01 (dont think so). I have an 03 so they can do mine if I have the valet or not.
