2004 IS300, won't move

So I'm trying to get some information about my son's IS300.
The car just plain won't move. When you put it in gear (man-5sp) and let off the clutch it won't move. It feels like it's going into gear when you move the shifter in and out of gear so mechanically it doesnt feel like there's anything wrong with the transmission. I'm wondering if this car has some sort of electronic controller/linkage that might be shot? He said he thought he smelled a burning rubber type of smell this happened, as if something was burning.
Any ideas? Thanks

might have melted the clutch to the flywheel

sounds like a clutch..

clutch sounds wasted. I just sold my 5speed tranny and still have my clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate. Everything is oem, balanced, and grabbs perfect. You can take it all for $150 +shipping if you want it. Good luck

He said he was driving and the car started to slow while the RPMs continued to go up.(sounds like he was pushing the accelerator harded trying to keep his speed up) Once the car came to a stop he popped the hood and there was a little smoke and a plastic/rubber smell. But like I said, just from the feel the transmission feels like it's shifting fine.

Last car I pulled a trans on to replace a clutch was a '65 Chevy Malibu about 30 years ago...how hard is this job if I choose to do it myself? Are there any DIY write ups?

dsouthmia0, I may take you up on your offer....
