Default Pre-Purchase IS300 Question

Hey guys,

Looking at IS300's first gen for my girlfriend. Budget is $9500 tops. We both live out here in Phoenix, AZ.

I did a search and most threads said that there are "no" "real" mechanical issues.
What about model year differences other than bumper/tail lights (IIRC)? Any other perks to certain model years (or negatives or course)?

We are looking for the lowest we can find...but for $9500 I expect we should be looking at around the 100,000 mark....What sort of price should we expect to pay for a clean title 100k mi 1st gen.

At 100k, is there anything specific we should check out? Or as long as it drives good, has history, should be good?

I come from 2 late 80's mercedes which I have done head gaskets and DIY work on...how easy is changing oil and basic fluids on this car considering what I have done? (work on my old benz's are cake though so much engine bay room to do whatever you want)

Thanks guys,

i woudln't worry about an IS300 with 100k just a few things to look at....

Make sure the car has had the timing belt changed... if you are unsure... change it as soon as you buy it. Last thing you want to do is ruin a good engine over a belt.

Overall these cars are extremely reliable, its going to be like any other car check for leaks, squeals, abnormal shakes/rattles. These cars are known to have extremely "melty" dash boards so if you touch the dash and its "sticky" the car has probably sat in the sun for a long time. If there are maintenance records available even better.

2001 model year varies a bit electronically so i would shoot for 2002+ if possible otherwise most cars are similar with the exception of minute changes for the Sportdesign and the Sportcross (wagon)

follow the link below for a list of differences from model year to model year. generally theyre all the same. one year isnt better than the other. the bodylines are all the same. the motors are strong and the cars are reliable.
