Default Need some guidance

So I just switch cars with my girl. I took her IS300 with a 5spd and I want to boost the car but I really don't know much about the 2j in the IS300. Want to know how much boost and power can a stock motor hold

It really depends on the miles and condition of the motor. I read somewhere that our trans can hold up to 350 hp, so I would say anything around 300 total hp or less should be safe. Don't quote me on that though.

lux is right, it really depends on condition but from what ive read you have a few options for a good longer lasting boosted engine, one being a 2jz-ge swap and second being replacing some of the internals of the engine (piston rods and oil squirters i think)

as far as the tranny goes if i remember correctly the 5 speed tranny is about 50 hp less than the automatic as far as how much you can put to it, i THINK it was 350 and 400, 350 being 5 speed and 400 being auto

2 things to keep in mind

1. anytime you add more power it adds more heat and youll need to compensate in other areas to keep it in healthy shape BEFORE you add boost (may get dinged on that but thats how i learned it)

2. doing other mods first can improve your ride and make it just as fun without doing boost ie. suspension - drivetrain - etc.

just my 2 cents

like UNOHOO says, and to add to it, do all the necessary work before you boost, like the cooling system upgrades, simple jobs can turn into a nightmare when working in a cluttered bay, do a tuck job, and familiarize yourself with the wiring in your car( it will be important when you have to add an ems, or fms when you boost). Essentially, do everything you would have to change if you had the turbo already, that way, nothing will complicate the build, and will eliminate and factory flawed parts.
