Talking just bought me an is300!

C: i recently purchased a 2002 is300 and i love it!
it's a 5 speed and i haven't found a single problem with the car yet. i bought it for a very good price IMO, he wanted $8000 cash but i got him down to $6800 it had 111xxx miles when i purchased it and i'm afraid that those miles will skyrocket because i can't stop driving it! it's sooo much fun! lol

well if anyone has some parts they have for sale, let me know.. i have many plans for this car and i'd like to start scratch some of those off the list already.

thanks C:

Congrats! first thing I'd check is to make sure the timing belt/waterpump/sparkplugs have been done, if not, they're overdue.

well the waterpump will look nice and shiny and the timing belt wont look dryrotted or cracked. or if it was done properly you can get the service history from lexus

Ask the previous owner? service records (only if it was done at lexus) But yeah, newish looking water pump would be best indicator. timing belts can "look" fine and still break on you. Interference engine and all, it's bad news.

My personal opinion, as I've stated elsewhere: even if the owner claims he did it, if he can't provide documentation from a Lexus dealership or a reputable "Supra" shop that knows the GE/GTE well, I'd just go ahead and do it myself. Sure, it may set you back a little bit, but since you have accessories off the motor anyway, might as well go big and turbo it while you're in there...
