@ DonCorleone & Justin727
10-4 on the cats. so much restriction in the stock setup huh?! no wonder my car feels faster vs my friend's stock IS.

swapping exhausts would be my last resort. if i cant get the light out with less parts and labor involved, i'll be swapping exhausts.

@ TOPSECRTIS
thanks for dropping in. trading this IS and a subie for an IS350...that's pretty...whats the word...ambitious??? lol

after hours of internet research, i've come to the conclusion that its the second sensor in B1 and the second sensor in B2. i'm going to do the mech O2 sim when my schedule allows it. from what i've read, they should eliminate my CEL woes.

Yes O2 sims will take care of the CEL. Tokensolutions makes some hence why I was going in that direction in earlier posts! +1 to ya brother

An o2sim will eliminate the CEL, you might still fail inspection if they look at emissions.

NYS inspection goes like this....

There is no emmisions gas measuring from 1996 and up, only an OBDII query which checks for codes and monitors, and the CEL comanded on. So pulling the cel bulb won't help

You can fail for a visual "no cat present" but most guys will see the nice car and not even put it on the lift.
when i brought my 99 GS400 last year, i was surprised at how easy it was. tech just synced the inspection machine to my car's OBD port and next thing i know, he asked for $37.00 and i was outta there. hopefully its the same with this IS since this car is newer.

lucky! we live in naziland, they don't let us off that easy.

Depending on which code/o2 sensor, there's an easy way via the harness in the ecu box to "jump the pins" so to speak that will turn off the cel. Sophiesleeps over at my.is made the tutorial iirc.

with my luck, i'll jump the wrong wires and blow up the ECU .
O2 sensor blockers are drilled out and they should be going in this evening...hopefully

antifoulers for B1S2 are in. the pair i fashioned for B2S2 however does not fit. with one antifouler, there is less than 2mm clearance between the top of the sensor and the body. i cruised on the highway between 65 and 90 mph for 35 miles last night and so far no CEL. i know there are a battery of other driving procedures to carry out for the OBD monitors to be 'ready.'

while i was down there, i noticed theres no gasket between my y-pipe and the rear section. anyone know the specs for that one?

update:

installed this on B2S2 sensor and no more CEL!

http://www.bigdaddiesgarage.com/angled-cel-fix.html

after that, i drove around 370 miles to make sure the OBDII monitors were ready.
being that my temp inspection sticker was already expired 10 days i went for inspection and she passed!

there were'nt any codes regarding evap system. probably because i reset the ECU 5 minutes before i hit the shop. slick me thought that if i reset the ECU before the inspection, it would clear my codes. NOPE lol.

with that, i believe the EVAP system is fine and that it simply was'nt ready.

did a little web scratching and learned some interesting things. the O2 sensor can be tricked into thinking a cat is still in place. this is done by moving it out of the way of exhaust gas flow.

i've read that this will clear the p0420 code. will clearing that also clear p0430?

Depends if they do a visual exam like in PA, if so you are FUBARED!! Also that will only last for so long, Toyota ECU's are sensitive to say the least about P420's, some more so than others.

luckily, the guy who did my inspection didnt do a visual test. also, for now, there is no tailpipe sniffer for OBDII cars. WIN!

if i get another P0420 or P0430, i'll check in here. i dont anticipate that for a while or ever though.
