Default K&N Engine air filter

Is it worth it to buy the K&N Engine air filter?

What are the pros and cons?

I need to change my engine air filter soon.

personally i have a K & N typhoon cold air intake and i love it, it has a guaranteed horsepower gain from K & N of around 10 hp, which is not bad for a $250 bolt on, but as far as just getting a K & N air filter it may add an extra horse or two having better, less restrictive airflow, but i am not sure i have never used a stock filter from K & N, i would rather have a whole intake sytem. one pro for sure is you can clean the K & N air filters and re-oil them, you can do this with the aftermarket cold air intake filter or the stock K & N filter, either one.

I also have a K&N intake and love it! On other cars, I have had a K&N drop in filter, it is a really good investment, you never have to replace it, just take it out and clean it when it gets dirty.

i have the k&n typhoon and mine is carb exempt, so im not quite sure of the difference between them. they both have the same HP gain. you might want to call k&n and ask them but the only difference i see is price and the black coating. my typhoon is chrome.

the only difference I know of is what I read somewhere on a forum (so may or may not be true who knows) is that the positions and shapes lend more to different areas, the typhoon is supposed to lend more to lower rpm gains and the other one is supposed to lend more to higher rpm gains. Now whether or not any of that is true I dont know. I can say from personal experience that having both the typhoon and obx short runner headers + y-pipe i do get more on the lower end but as far as the other one I dont know, sorry i cant be more helpful

btw if you wanna save some loot, just keep checking the for sale threads, thats where I got my typhoon

drawback you should look out for is the wet filters like the k&n can foul the MAF sensor. more silicon is gonna get in the engine over paper filter. there's no real gains to a drop in filter. caymandiver showed that consistently on a dyno.

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/2008687-post43.html

only benefit is a bit more intake noise and lifetime use. i'd rather get a dry filter than a wet one like k&n.

Hey members of CL,

I found a coupon for advanceautoparts.com.

The coupon is BIG30 = $30 off $75

the K&N filter is $69.99, and buy something cheap to get up to $75.

This a real bargain, I just ordered it today. The coupon works! Not sure whats the expiration date for the coupon.
