I posted this same question earlier today. The armrest is a dealer option on the 2002 models but apparently will be able to be ordered as a seperate part and fitted to the 2000/2001 IS's.

I can't say I understand the full leather treatment myself in the 5 spd. The current set-up is to stop you from sliding around on the seats during high g cornering. I would think 5 spd buyers would be more likely to drive in this manner? The nav screen set-up does look nice.

the trim is gone too!
I looked this one over again and the silver-tone plastic trim is also gone from the dash. I noted in the InsideLexus article they were going to rework the dash. Probably in respoonse to several articles including R&T that the plastic silvertone stuff was rather cheap looking. Looks like they went to all rubber-like dash similar to the 3 series BMWs. I like the look better, seems cleaner.

does anyone else like the idea of color-matching dash kits? like absolute red on the oustide, with black/absolute red trim interior? or the yellow w/yellow & black on the inside? i remember in a road & track a while back, they did something on the techart porsche 996 widebody, which was bright yellow and it had yellow/black interior to match the yellow paint and it looked unbelievable...anyone else have comments?
these are three kinds available from germantech for the porsche. the red one matches the 2002 interior steering wheel i've seen in pictures...well i just think they would look nice...my 2¢

It's a good idea but.............
Don't do it yourself. I had an interior repair guy spray the silver trim SMB and it came out like sh$@ !!! Lexus puts some type of coating on the plastic so you can't just spray on top of it. The bad paint job will just act as my primer for the body shop guy to finish the job. Hopefully it will be done for Englishtown.
