Default Should I get a RX400h?

I'm needing an SUV. I recently sold off my 2016 Malibu hybrid. I was thinking of getting an electric SUV, such as the Lexus RZ or BZ4x. I was also considering the Mach-e, id.4, and Ionic 5.

But I think it might make sense to grab an older Lexus hybrid. It would be a daily driver with some time spent at stoplights in Los Angeles. My Hybrid Malibu was awesome for that and averaged 42 MPG. My '99 SC400, however, does not.

So, is a RX 400h still a good vehicle?

I read the rx400h forum. This was a thought tonight. I'd put down a deposit on a '23 VW id.4 as well as a Ford Mach-e. But I love my SC400 and really enjoyed my son's LS430 (before it met an untimely demise).

A year ago I was in the same position, looking for an SUV. With local emissions restrictions I looked at hybrids, and the RX 400h was my initial choice. However, in my search I accidentally came across the 450h, and ended up with a used one of those. I had to stretch the budget a little, but I thought it was worth it and was glad I did.

As as aside, it may sound trivial but, apart from being a little newer, with the improvements that brings, one of the things I like the most is the extra cupholder under the vent by the driver's door. It's not only a more convenient location for me but also, in the summer the a/c blows on your drink and keeps it cool, and in the winter the heater keeps hot drinks hot.

PS: 400h is a great car (if it has complete service history). You can buy it if you are ready to replace the battery in 5+ years (A traction battery is the only thing that can make you sad).

Thank you both! As the owner of two SC400 cars, I know the importance of a decent cupholder!

Haha, me too.I used to have a Jaguar XK8 and the cupholders seemed more of a begrudging afterthought. If you took a bend it would throw the cup and decant your beverage for you.

lol, yep!
I snapped this picture a few months ago and sent it to my son. I forget what I had in the center console cup holder but needed to use the flimsy one in the dash. This was my starbucks drink in the cup holder. Nevertheless, I took it out, and held it between my legs. You can tell this was a while ago, because I now have a double-din touchscreen in place of the Nakamichi. I do miss my cassette player.
