Default Shifting out of D

Well i had a feeling something was coming and it reared it's head this morning. Today's events:

Started up today, drove to work (aaprox. 15miles). No events, no issues.
Went out three hours later for short drive to 'bucks where i stayed in car for 30 mins with car radio on-- NOTHING else.
Started up no problem, drove back to office and tranny slipped out of D once. Held it down and all was good.
Left for home, put in D and went a few feet and then it went into neutral. pulled on shift lever towards me and all was good. Full power. EVERY time i let go of the shift lever it would slip back into neutral.
Went to see my mechanic. He's on vacation.Put a tester on the 12v battery and it read 12.6 volts. Started up again and it seemed everything was good.!/4 of a mile it slipped out of D again. Drove all the way to Costco with my hand on lever.
45 minutes later, left Costco and drove home (approx. 10 miles) .Nothing. No problems.
I thought it could be my 12volt battery running low.

Could it be this simple?
Thanks in advance

12.6v isn't particularly low, and shouldn't cause the shifter to physically pop out of gear.I posted some info in another thread recently about adjusting the switch, not sure if it applies here.

I believe it is on the front of the transmission, accessible from the bottom of the car once you remove the splash shield. Of course, when working under any vehicle, set the parking brake and chock the wheels.

11.7V is threshold for 12V.
Gear shifter is basically a joystick connected to PSD with single cable. It simply tells TCM what mode of operation you want currently use. Then it adjusts PSD mode electronically, as it does not have any conventional gears to shift through. So 12V does not really kicks shifter back. Or holds it in place. It's something mechanical.

as far as working under a vehicle, this really is about as simple as removing the splash shield. Then the switch is right there and you just need to shift the lever into N, and adjust the switch.

Well, switch won't pop shifter out of proper position. And they made it zig zagged on purpose, so shifter stays in place.. I'd safely bet, it's in the gear shifter console, Something's slipping.

Something's slipping.

The shifter does not move but it moves out of gear( electronically, I guess) . I've adjusted a lot of PRNDL's in my time and i figured it was something like this but since the shifter stays in it's 'slot' i didn't know how to proceed. Thanks for all the help. I'll update when i get to it. I should note that when all this started i couldn't get it into B but since i never use that position i wasn't concerned. I've done a few searches and one of the tips , when this happens, was to shift back and forth from N to D. The last time i did this i decided to try B and it went into B. Since that time(crossed fingers) it hasn't slipped out > Nothing .A day and a half so far.

I still think it is a matter of adjusting the shift position switch. Good luck!
