No CPO Hybrid AWDs to be found?
A 2016-7 AWD Hybrid tops my wishlist but there isn’t a single one within 200 miles of Charlotte and only 1 within 200 miles of Atlanta. (By comparison there are 59 350’s surrounding Atlanta. I didn’t check fwd vs awd)
Either they don’t sell any new, or people love and keep them, or there are problems that prevent Lexus from certifying them.
Is there any strategy beyond emailing every dealer I’d be willing to drive to and telling them to look out for one? Talk about losing your ability to negotiate.

I think your middle hypothesis is probably correct. I know i'm not trading in my '17 450 anytime in the near future (hopefully many, many, years from now). I'm also in Charlotte and there was decent availability for new 450's, and a few high dollar/low millage used back in November. I think just keep checking back, things might pick up when they start coming off lease (though I don't know if the lease/buy ratio for the 450 is different than the 350?)

Leasing a hybrid isn't a good idea. You'll never realize the gas cost savings from a hybrid. Therefore I wouldn't expect a lot of people to turn them in after 2-3 years.
Probably people buy hybrids thinking they'll keep it long term to recoup some of the costs.
Lots more problems reported on the normal RX forum vs the hybrid forum, so probably not that hypothesis.
Last number I heard was that around 10% of RXs sold are hybrids. I'm sure someone will correct me.

I wonder if there are more problems because there are more units.
Thanks!

Probably because there are a lot more non-hybrid units sold. The 450 is significantly higher in cost until the 2018 MY, so it either did not sell well vs. the 350 or the people who have them are real dedicated owners.

There are less problems. Less mechanical parts and wear and tear.

I’d like to thank you all for your very valuable help. We have decided that an Outback better suits our needs now (more cargo + less money) but I’ll be back when we’re ready to buy a sedan.
See you in two years!
