Default What to watch out for in used RX400H

I am thinking of picking up a used RX400H from circa ~2006-2007 model years. I have heard that Toyotas from this era are some of the most reliable ever made. Are there any peculiarities about the first gen hybrid that I should look out for when searching for a used one?
Thanks!!!

Nothing major to look out for. The radiators are known to leak at some point (mine has just started leaking after 150k+ miles), but it's not particularly expensive to have replaced. Ensure timing belt has been replaced on schedule and recalls have been performed, but otherwise they're uber reliable cars. There's been <10 reported battery failures online, if that tells you anything about reliability.

Yes, seeing many RX Hybrids with 100-200k+ miles on original battery packs and no issues. Thanks for the tips!! BTW, any major differences between RX Hybrids and Highlander Hybrids?? I know they share the technology and many components. If I see a Highlander that is much less expensive with less miles for example, I would consider buying it unless it lacked some key features available only on the RX.
Thanks...

Basically same vehicle, the Lexus is probably quieter, and fit and finish a little better.

Buy Highlander Hybrid. I had one. It's superior to Lexus. Utility wise, beats Lexus hands down. I had Limited, so 3rd row, seats 7, ton of cargo room, very fine dynamics and I was averaging 30mpg. I used it as a truck for about 6 months. If not for weird shake it developed, I'd have kept it, it was stellar car otherwise. Compared to wife's RX350, it's totally better. We had rear DVD, even lunch table. Excellent AWD.

Is the Highlander all wheel drive only like the Lexus? We get a lot of snow in the winter so I'm definitely going to want an all wheel drive model. And I imagine they are both CVT's. Had a CVT in my HS 250 and it seem to perform well. I've heard that other manufacturers such as Nissan, are not making very reliable CVT's but it doesn't seem to be a problem with Toyotas. Actually, there's not much that seems to be much of a problem with Toyotas, especially the two models I'm interested in. That being said, i'll probably let price and condition of the particular vehicle help me make my decision at the time of purchase whether it be the Lexus or the Toyota. Thanks for your comments....

Allow me to thank you now....."Thank You." Can I assume that applies to both RX and Highlander??

i'm not sure, but I am guessing 2007 Highlander is similar since it's a redesign

Good luck!

Yes it applies to both - the nav system was updated to a newer version that doesn't look quite as antiquated in 2007.

I am also looking for a RX400h as well. I am looking for 06-08 though. I was looking for the RX350 however, my mechanic told me that the RX400h is a solid vehicle as well. The only downside I am seeing right now is the timing belt change.

Is there any problems with the CVT for towing purposes? Like a trailer up to 1500lbs. Is there any additional maintenance for the CVT?

Does the electric motors have any premature failures? How can they be tested? How can you tell a AWD model without looking under the vehicle? I imagine that the navigation screen with the power flow diagram would not have the rear motor on the 2WD models. Is this a correct assumption?

ps. I am not trying to hijack your thread, but we probably are looking for similar information to learn from.
