Exclamation High mileage 2013 RX 450h

Would you buy a 2013 RX 450H that has 68, 000 miles on it even if it is a Certified Pre Owned?

Most people on here wouldn’t even consider 168,000 miles high mileage

I also found out that this car has had all of its services done since it was bought new. I was able to pull these up on the Lexus Drivers website. This also gives me some comfort in buying this car.

All depends on price.

I'm coming up on 110,000 miles and all good so far. Hoping for a couple more years I think before I want to move on...

Hey Andy, sounds like you have been happy with yours, The price is 26,500, loaded with led's, comfort package, luxury package, all the goodies! I've always wanted an RX 450h, I'm trading in my 2013 RX 350, little disappointed with the 25, 500 they are allowing me and wished it had the Mark Levinson radio. Thanks for your input! Tim

Just watch the 12V battery. I had 2015 450h for two years and decided to trade it in. Not because anything wrong with it. Living up North I realized there is no gas saving
in cold winter month due to decreased battery capacity. And that little 12V battery concern. When this battery is dead or near dead it is impossible to start the car. I traded
the car in and the guy who bought it had that issue. We had unusually cold weather with lots of snow this winter 450h won't start. The ~3 year old 12v Battery had it. He had the car on the flat bed truck to go to a dealer to have the battery replaced and reset things such as windows sun roof, radio, etc. In milder climate a good choice..

Everyone is different. my wife's 2010 gets approximately 33mpg in summer, and 27mpg in winter. To me this is fantastic for an AWD SUV that sometimes tows. I agree about the battery, we are on borrowed time since it is the original battery.

Ontario winter is not as harsh as Alberta. I used to live in S.S. Marie, Toronto B4 I got transferred out to Alberta in 1970.

68,000 miles is not high mileage, in my books. There is still another 40,000 miles before the spark plugs and coolant need to be replaced for the first time. If the 12 volt battery is original, it may need to be replaced by now, so factor that into your purchase costs.

The main things that I'd be concerned about is how the vehicle has been treated by the previous owner - scuffs can be cleaned up, and cracked looking leather seats can be rejuvenated, but damage to the interior like rips to the door panels, abuse from offroading, uneven wear on the tyres, severe corrosion, horrible smells from the airconditioning, pet hair (sorry pet owners!), shoddy accident repairs, uneven panels, defective paintwork, strange engine noises or vibrations, etc. would put me off any pre-owned vehicle purchase.

Hello Lawrance, I did purchase the 2013 RX 450h. It is a wonderful car, what a marvel. Thanks for the response. It does appear that the car has been well taken care of and drives like a dream. I had an RX 350 before and this 450h drives sooo much better! After saying all that, something strange happened today. When I first cranked it up and the gas engine engaged it ran ruff just for a few seconds almost like it was miss firing, it was weird, hard to describe, but after about 30 seconds it evened up and was smooth as silk. This car is a CPO and I'm definitely going to take it and tell the Lexus dealership about this. I wonder if I should be concerned. Thanks again! Tim

I'd say don't worry about it, but if it keeps happening in the future with the same tank of fuel, perhaps its time to try another brand of fuel or introduce some injector cleaner to the tank. Usually it's something simple.

Sometimes if there's something wrong, the ECU might log a fault. I have a Scangauge from another vehicle, which I plugged into my RX450h to scan for error codes, but there was none.

Have you checked the air filter element to ensure that the engine is able to breath properly? I just replaced mine today and it was definitely due for a replacement. But I can't say I've experienced rough running at startup before. The element I bought is called "Wesfil", made in China - I found that it didn't have the white gauze layer like the OEM filter. So whilst it is very cheap, I will not be using anything other than genuine filters in the future. It just didn't seem to sit flush into the filter holder.

Been with RX last 18 yrs. Please save yourself lot of trouble and only put OE plugs. Any thing else is a gamble. The OE plugs are not cheap but when you get 110K+ miles, no point in trying to save money. On the other hand if you want to splurge and buy exotic/more_expensive plugs, you may test around and I am willing to bet that you will come back to OEM. There is nothing magical about the plugs [they should be generic] but trust me, the OE work the best.

And another thing - because the rear spark plugs are just so difficult to access, it may be worthwhile to replace the three rear ignition coils as well, and keep the old ones as spares in case the front coils ever need replacing. I would just re-use the front coils until a failure condition occurs, then swap out faulty front coil with one of the old coils saved from the rear cylinder bank.
