Default 50k and 60k service

Has anyone skipped the 50k service? I know the 50k service is a minor one and costs about $120 at the dealership. I am in NOVA and the toyota dealership I called didn't seem to do lexus service per the first person, then another came on line and said it would be $95. Hmm. Will call another.

For the 60k service which I understand is around $350, did you opt out of somethings? Which? How much did you end up paying?

If in or around NoVA where do you go for service?

Thank you in advance.

We've had our vehicle for about 7-8 months and just hit the 65k mark. I think every 10k is the oil change (synthetic). I've been taking our current and past vehicle to the local Toyota dealer and they have no problem servicing it. I have had them even fill out the maintenance book from Lexus. So far they have done the 60k and 65k service.

They offer a 3 oil change deal for about $125 (synthetic). Maybe your dealer is doing it too.

At 60k, going by memory, it needs a new air cleaner and a new cabin filter. Got these off of Amazon myself and installed. Then just told the dealer I already did that so if they could just check off in book, that would be great. I also did the brake fluid exchange too, which was around $99 if I recall.

Lexus has been more expensive each time I spot check against Toyota, so I continue to bring it there. I believe it's basically a Toyota Highlander. Warranty stuff does need to go to the Lexus Dealer....have to go there sometimes, but for now, I haven't been there yet.

^^^ Sorry, I was technically refering to my new 2013 RX450h. But I did the same thing for our 2007 RX400h....but I didn't use synthetic fluid. I used standard toyota oil and the 3 service package was $75 for conventional oil.

Thanks for responding. I did an online estimate on repairpal for the 50k service and got an estimate of $350! I also found this for the 50k service some of which we can do though the tire rotation and brake check will need to be done. Will call around.

Yea, 50K service is basically just an oil change and tire rotation. The rest is just inspecting the vehicle.

55k is identical.

60k is oil change, brake oil replacement, tighten axle shaft boots (if really needed), and then inspect vehicle.
Also part of the 60k is the cabin filter change, and the engine filter change. Again, very easy to do yourself and much cheaper to buy on Amazon or local autoparts store.

I have no idea where you are but Priority Toyota of Springfield has an oil change for $33. Add in a tire rotation if needed and usually the "multi-point inspection" is part of the Oil Service.

Battlefield Toyota also has oil change for $35.

The big thing you need to put on your radar is the 90k (or can probably be pushed to 100k) is the timing belt replacement. This will be an expensive fix.

Your response is so appreciated. I searched right now and didn't see this - where did you find the $33 info - Springfield would totally work for me. Once I got the oil filter and oil and gave it to a local place to do it and all added up was more than that. I think the $33 would not be for synthetic. But either way will call them for a quote.

Yes the cabin and engine filter I think can be managed. Its the other stuff that I would like to get an estimate for @60k - get an idea from local DC metro folks. I see you are in CO area.

Here is a link to Priority's specials. $33 oil change which is very decent for conventional oil. Also it looks like they have a free "multipoint inspection". Might be able to do both. Add another $10 for synthetic. Unless you really want it, I had no problem running regular, conventional oil rather than synthetic.

Try to be consistent on tire rotation. These vehicles tend to eat tires up pretty quick. I usually bought at least 60k mile warranty tires (65k is good too). After getting around 30-35k out of the tires, I got a warranty credit back towards the purchase of a new set of tires. That's just the way it goes. I put on 170k on our 07' RX400h...it was a good vehicle!

The last thing is brake fluid change at 60k. I'd have them do that too for you.

Thanks again, these are not compatible with my 450h but I found cabin filters on Amazon that are, will look for engine filters as well.

Sorry, I thought you had a 2007 or 2008 because this was posted in the older, 2nd generation hybrid vehicles.

What year is your vehicle? Some of my comments would be modified if it's a 3rd generation (2010-2015). My 2013 takes synthetic.

One of the comments would be not worrying about a timing belt. The newer models use a timing chain so that's a good thing!

If synthetic, you change the oil every 10,000 miles. So at 65k, you are really just rotating your tires.

Also note you do not have a timing belt on the newer Lexus. So the 90k is not that expensive.

Silly me. I just reached the 50k and am not due for an oil change for another couple of months. So in keeping with the following recommendations, I am just going to do the filters myself and check if Costco or someone local will do the rotation for a good price. Then ask around for the bigger 60k service which would need the brake and transmission fluid stuff etc.
"The 50,000 mile service is generally a minor service. This service generally involves an oil and filter change, tire rotation, and a safety inspection."
Thanks again.

Default 50 and 60k service in Northern Virginia

I am at 50k and not due for an oil change for another couple of months. I am planning on replacing the cabin and engine filters myself. Unless I have missed anything all I need are tires rotated. don't want to take to the dealer for that. Any good reliable places around?

Similarly for the 60k service, may do a few things myself and instead of going to the dealer, was thinking if I should try another place.

Suggestions appreciated. Thank you in advance.
