Default Surprise when refueling

Leaving Tucson on Monday stopped to fill up at Pilot $1.99 for regular unleaded. ONLY took 12.9 gallons and needle was almost touching empty. So still had 4.3 gallons in tank.
Home to dealer =76 miles mpg read 30.1.--- Dealer to home round trip 152 got 24.1 outside air at 104* hot at 80 mph with a/c. Very nice thank you!

Default similar thing happened to me a long time ago

You should have the gas tank checked...in the heat if your vent is plugged , the tank may have inverted causing abnormal reading by sensors

The RX400h has a bladder in the fuel tank that can expand and contract with temperature. Also don't expect good mpg at 80 mph.

After I bought the RX my first three trips of about 80 miles I was getting 19 to 21.5 mpg.
After doing the manual ISC Reset at home on my driveway I got 30.1 going into Tucson to the dealer to get an oil leak fixed.
From my home 4180 ft elev 1/2 mile to I-10 then at 80 mph 19 miles to 5000' elev then 16 miles down to Benson at 3500' then up hill 5 miles to 4000' then slowly
down hill to Tucson 70 miles from home all at 80 depending on traffic. Then 6 miles into Dealer in Tucson at 40-45. Clock read 30.1 mpg.
Return home clock read 24.1 mpg as it was slowly uphill. Temps went from 90 to 104*.

I almost always have a Lexus SUV. My present car is RX 350, 2016 model (This is my 5th Lexus SUV). I had an unbelievable experience which i would like to share. While driving i got a message on car's dash board that there is a problem with transmission and go to dealership. It sounded serious so i went straight to dealership cancelling my intended trip. At the dealership, the first question was that did i get gas in a day or two. I said yes it was two days back. They took the car inside the workshop and came back after one and a half hour, to announce that my gas tank cap was not fully tight, and the normal charges for the this service are $150 (which they are waiving for the first incident) I was relieved and said that at least I know that if I get this message I should stop the car and tighten the gas cap. Now came the unbelievable part. I was told that if next time the cap is not fully tight i will still have to come to workshop and pay $150 to get rid off this message. I can't believe that such a high end car cannot flash a message that the gas tank cap is not fully tight and the person can tighten it instead of wasting half day and paying $150. Secondly, what if it is really a transmission problem and someone keeps driving thinking it to be gas tank cap problem. WHO WILL BE RESPONSIBLE. I am seriously thinking that my loyalty was misplaced.

A properly equipped independent can clear it for you as well and may charge you less.

What was the exact message? It sounds like you're confusing check engine warning -- which could mean any number of things, not just loose gas cap -- with some sort of transmission message.
