ABS Actuator Warranty Extension!!

I just got a letter saying they are extending the warranty for the actuator!!

I spent about $3,000 on it about 8 months ago!! THANK GOD!

It is nice when things work out as they should. Did you file a complaint with the NTSB when you had your issue? Is it unlimited miles? I am over 140k now. thanks

joedaddy1 06-10-16 05:30 AM

I did file.

Toyota is extending it to December 2017.

After that it's 10 years or 150k miles which comes first.

Btw, I meant to say this is for many cars, not just mine

I too got the letter, but I am at 177k miles so it does no good for me. But kudos to those that are covered.

wait... did you have it repaired before?

Also.. I think it's extended to December 2017, no matter the mileage.

AFTER that date, the 10years/150k miles kick it..

I thought the letter said 10 years or 150k miles which ever comes first. No mine has not failed, but makes noises....I believe I am out of luck.

joedaddy1 is correct. You are extended to December 2017, no matter the mileage. If you are making clicking noises, the unit is bad. That is how other posts describe the failure. As this is a safety issue I seriously doubt you are going to have any issues getting this replaced.

It's really good news to this prospective buyer though naturally I'd rather see a later cutoff date.

Yikes.. Even over 11 years after production? I think Lexus is going out of their way on this one

Thank goodness for this "recall." I bought our 07 Rx four years ago at 80K miles and the brake actuator always made a chirping sound…kind of like the sound of a sea lion's bark. It didn't bother me enough to replace the $2K actuator so we just lived with it. However, my wife has had an issue with increasing frequency recently. The car will lurch forward or backwards after placing the car in gear with the brake pressed. It's as if the brakes do not have enough power to prevent the car from motion. Luckily, she's quick enough to throw more pressure to the brake pedal and put the car back into Park. I'm going to beat that this is an issue with the actuator.

At first, I was disappointed when I saw the secondary coverage stating, "10 years or 150K miles, whichever comes first," since the car just hit 152,300. Then I was delighted when I saw the primary coverage is good until 12/31/17 regardless of mileage…I'm covered. I will call my local dealership to see if they have the parts in hand for replacement. I'm guessing they'll be flushing the brake fluid as well.

Just to be clear, this is a warranty extension which means you only get new parts if your current one goes bad. A recall means everyone gets the free parts who asks. And yes you will get new brake fluid as everything gets flushed out.

Is the LS 460 a hybrid? Hybrids have different braking system and that is what is covered by the warranty extension.

We just got the car back from the local Lexus dealership. I dropped the car off at 7am and it was ready for pickup at 1pm that day. The actual service job took just under 1 hr and so far I'm happy with the result. The chirping sound is gone and the brakes feel a lot more linear compared to before. My wife's opinion is that there's a slight lag between pressing the pedal and any braking action, but I think she was just use to the brakes with the bad actuator that had a steeper first bite. Under my own testing, the car pitches instantly when pressing the brake pedal so it seems clear to me that there's no lag. In my opinion, the brakes feel much more like a traditional car and less like a hybrid, but I suppose I was also use to a bad brake actuator.
