RX450h Mileage Thread

Last week I traded my '13 Rxh for the new '16 Rxh. Previously, if I really babied it (accelerate slowly, coast as much as I could, etc) I got it up to 30.5 for a whole tank (once). Mostly it was around 28. My first tank in the '16 Rxh was 30.4. Now I'm on my 2nd tank, have not tried at all to maximize mileage and I'm at 30.8 on this tank...makes me wonder how high I could get it if I really babied it! Sweet! :woohoo:

If i were to make an educated guess it would be 32 MPG if you babied it on the 2016 RXh.

I could care less about mpgs just as long as my RXh keeps me away from the pump longer then i am happy.

How many miles per tank do you get on your RXh? Cruising Range.

I have to agree, most of us don't buy hybrids for mileage alone. Still I'll be curious to see if there's a difference. The '16 has a few extra HP and pounds. I'm picking up my 450h F-Sport next week and will report back.

John, do you want to start a mileage thread for the 4RXh? I'll make it a sticky.

TexasRxh 05-03-16 07:18 PM

I don't buy hybrids for the mileage only. Mostly I like the idea of being a little more green, I like the quiet when I stop and I like the fact that almost everything on the vehicle is electric. That means the AC works just as well at a stop light as it does on the highway. BTW I'm at 31.6 and not even half way thru the 2nd tank! :woot:

Anita, do I need to start another thread?

kitlz 05-04-16 09:16 AM

John, I can rename this one to the 450h Mileage thread if you want. We could use one now that a few members have ithe RXh

TexasRxh 05-04-16 06:41 PM

Sure! Let's go!

Done. And you get to be the thread starter :)

Still on the 2nd tank, now at 31.8. 32 here I come! :D

I will have to check range and miles next fill-up.

I actually hit 32.1 on tank #2! And I am not babying it at all, just driving "normally." Being able to hit 32 is (to me) fantastic!

I reset Trip B to see how many miles I actually get on this 3rd tank.

32.1 mpg is amazing! I've read some 3RX owners are getting 34, so I'm sure higher is possible. Couple of questions...

1) What is your drive like in terms of hills, turns, etc.?
2) How much Highway vs. City driving?
3) What Octane Level gasoline?
4) Are you on Eco, Normal or Sport Mode?
5) What outdoor temperatures and weather are you driving in?
6) When you say "normally", what do you mean? Some people are just unconsciously good/environmentally friendly drivers! My normal driving is still able to beat EPA, while my Dad is way below! Are you regenerating as much as possible? Is your acceleration in the PWR range or ECO range?

I'll have to read up on some hybrid ECO tips as our RX will be our first hybrid!

I live in Houston so it's mostly flat with a few small hills. My daily drive is streets to work and highway home, highway to church on Sunday. I burn premium 93 octane and am almost always in normal drive mode. I'm almost always in the PWR range when accelerating. Overall I would say I'm a fairly friendly driver.

Wow! That makes your 32 mpg even more impressive! From what I've been reading, it is most efficient to stay out of the PWR range when accelerating. Is it easy to stay out of the PWR range? I've test driven the 450h and other hybrids, but not enough to understand the balance between saving fuel and annoying the guy behind me.

Also, the fact you're getting such great MPG in a mix of city and highway is amazing!

Thanks for the update!

LOL...it is NOT easy to stay out of the white Power range unless you want people to think you're 80 years old. I just don't have the patience to take off that slowly every time I start.

Tank #3 Results:
  • 485 - Predicted distance at fill-up (pretty darned close!)
  • 65 - miles remaining on the mileage predictor when I filled up (tank 4)
  • 411 - miles driven on the Trip ODO
  • 31.2 - MPG by the computer
  • 31.2 - actual MPG by the calculator
This tank had a fair amount of highway driving at 70-75 mph so that likely was the cause for the lower mileage than tank #2.

 NICE!!! 31.2 is still great, especially at 70-75 mph!
