Default Disappointed in NX 300H hybrid

I'm jumping in with a negative opinion. I came off a lease of the gas NX 200, and was excited for the better mileage of the the 2019 NX 300H. I picked up the car in August, and mileage was great: 30mpg with 90% local driving, as opposed to the 19mpg I was getting on the gas NX200. As soon as the cold weather came, mileage plummeted. With this last fill up, I'm getting 23mpg. I don't know what the problem is. My guess is that the cold weather is affecting the battery power, so I'm mostly using gas. My daily commute is short, all local roads, stop and go, 10 miles back and forth, so it feels like by the time the car is fully warmed up for EV mode, I'm in the garage. I've tried adjusting my driving style to maximize EV usage, and that hasn't helped. Also, the engine transition to gas from EV mode is extremely rough. The car shakes, it's quite disconcerting. I did bring this to my dealer's attention, and he said this transition is rougher on the NX than other Lexus models. I'm due for my 6 month service next month, and I'm going to ask the dealership to do a thorough check on this car. I'm interested in hearing if anyone else has experienced this, or has any insight?

This is our third hybrid in a row (Prius V, then an Rav4, now a NX300h.) the NX300h is quieter and more comfortable than the other two cars were, which is expected, since it is a Lexus, not "just" a Toyota.

Only have 400 miles on it so far, so it's hard to get a solid feel of gas mileage. I expect we'll get a much better feel once we get it out on the road for a few hundred mile in a few weeks. However, so far it is about the same as the Rav4 (around 30 mpg in town).

My dash is reading over 34 right now - which typically runs about 1.5 to 2 mpg higher than actual calculated mileage. I even had one tank that hit 35 calculated. I think my worst tank was during a particularly nasty/cold winter spell and we only got 28mpg. That was our worst measured mileage. I can’t even imagine how I could drive ours in such a way as to only get 23 mpg. I typically drive in eco mode, but the weather conditions definitely have a big impact on the mileage. If you aren’t getting much battery time, your mileage will definitely be reduced.

Our NX is the fourth Toyota/Lexus hybrid we have/currently owned and we have really enjoyed all of them but weather conditions are a factor in your mileage.

I am fairly new to Lexus (8 weeks) after been a Mercedes driver from 1998 until 2019 when I bought a 30h with 15,000 miles on it.This car is different to any other car I have had.I did notice a lot of road noise & tyre noise from the back end so I soundproofed it and it is great now.
My tyres are 225/60/18 and I think I will fit 225/65/18 to make the ride softer .
i have tried all the driving modes ( Eco,standard & sport) I have found I am getting the best all around performance from putting it into sport plus and selecting 6 Th gear, the car does not Rev as much when you accelerate hard and it stays in electric longer,it is also better on mpg.
main beam lights are not great so I will change them for the new Lucas 2 nd generation LED bulbs which are exact replacement for the halogen with the exact same aim, they are 150€ but worth it.
i changed a 2016 Mercedes avangarde new model with 9 speed box for the 300 h which has better leather, better ride, and more comfortable then the Mercedes but it is fad harder on fuel as the merc was a 2.2 diesel doing 4.7 Ltr / 100 Klm compared to 7.5 LTR /100 Klm But the Mercedes was not AWD and was not petrol.

In the merits of the Lexus NX, I would note the ability to cover short distances at low speeds, using only electric traction and the Lexus navigation system

Have had the 2020 NX300H for over 3 weeks now. It’s a vast improvement over my old 2015 NX300H.

Anyone comment on the 2016 NX300h? Looking at new to me certified used. New to hybrid. Wondering about expected battery and cost to replace. One I am looking at has 52k. Records for dealer service at 5k increments. Current car, ES350 purchased used, owned for ~7 years. Mostly city driving ~10k per year.

Thanks!

I'm on my second NX 300h now. That should tell you how I feel about the model.

other then that there were many subtle changes
a few cosmetic and many tech like apply play
for example
the ride and power delivery are so much better then my 2015

I drive mostly city, until I go cross country, so perhaps 50/50 overall.
I don't commute as I'm retired.
My normal driving habit is without heavy foot. An exception to that would be when passing on 2-lane highways. For that I do like having my current 2L turbo kicking in to get by traffic swiftly.
I usually drive speed limit, + 5/10km on occasion. Mostly 100/110, occasionally 120km/hr (60-70mph)

While I'm not in the mountains much, I do have to cross them if I go any distance. Some grades are 6/8 percent with some being short and others long grades, up and down.

Possible pros:
I think I would like the Hybrid technology. I say think, because I'm still learning about it.
Loosing a bit of cargo space - not a problem.
My towing would be well within limits.
Like regular gas as well as the possibility of increased range.

Possible Cons:
How much noisier would the 'h be under normal driving conditions ? Hoping to drive one next week to see for myself but would welcome comments.
In sport mode, how much slower for passing or hill climbing than the 't ?

While the hybrid is premium priced it may be a good time to buy one now due to slow sales.

Final decision is very personal and ultimately I will make it.
However, I want to avail myself to as much information as possible, pro and/or con and that includes feedback from current owners.

With luck, perhaps there are some owners in British Columbia to share their views.

What did I miss in my pros & cons?

Perhaps I'm totally nuts, but I have to work it through
I had a 2015 NX 300h I traded in for a 2020 300h.
That should tell you how much I like it.

I really wanted all the new/updated technology the NX 300h has since I purchased the 2015.
Also this time I bought all of the extras I failed to buy on the 2015.
I love the NX 300h !
