Tail Gate / Rear Hatch Won't open
 

Our 2006 400h no longer has a working hatch. cannot open by hand or with auto lift? any suggestions before i take to the dealer? is there a safety lock i missed somewhere i hope?

You can check the rear hatch kill switch by the glovebox, but it should still work by hand even if that was pressed.

I have pushed from the inside with my foot while someone was opening it manually from the outside and made it work that way when it was stuck. worked fine after that.

i found the button in the glovebox, i didn't know it was there. no effect but good to know.

however, while my wife pushed from the inside i pushed the auto button then ran to the back and after three tries we were able to get the lift gate open. it seems the pull string from a collapsible chair got wedged in the mechanism.

but alas, the outside handle is still stuck in the compressed position and the door cannot be opened by hand. gotta figure that one out
