I had experienced it a few days ago too. It was on a flat surface, as I was backing out of my garage.

I put the foot on the brake and didn't start the car right away - I was playing with Nav in ACC mode. As I was backing out, the brake assist gave out on me. I would have shrugged it off, as the brakes were still functional and were back online real fast, if I haven't seen this thread.
