Default HID vs LED: brightness?

Does anyone know how the brightness of the LED compares with the HID on the RX? I've got HID on my RX 350 but I'm considering a 450h. I really like how bright my lights are now. Are the LEDs comparable?

I went with the LEDs more for the looks than the light

Overall the LEDs are less intense than the HIDS. The range is not as far and pretty dim without the fogs. That was my first impression when I went from my 330 with bi-xenons over to the LEDs. It's not a problem anymore since I changed the fogs to 6K.

My wife only has center vision in one eye and this was a very big thing for us on our order. The LED's look brighter and she can see farther out with then the HID did. If I had to do it all over again would go for the LED over the HID without thinking about it.

It's personal, some like vanilla, some like chocolate
. They're both really great. I chose HID's others chose LED's and all swear by them. You will have to go to your dealer at night and test drive both so you won't have buyers remorse

honestly, they seem the same to me. The LEDs are more than adequate for me at night, and with the stock fogs on, there is no issue. They must have had to pass some osrt of brightness spec in order to be allowed for production, so I wouldnt worry about it. Whether its worth the money is another story.

the only advantage of HIDs is that you could swap out the oem bulbs and put in 5K or 6K bulbs if you want whiter whites or bluish white (for cosmetic purposes). you can't do that with LEDs.

Has nobody taken a picture of the HID and LED light beams side by side?

I found this article about the LED headlamps on the LS600hL, which may be similar to the ones on the RX450h.

The article is a bit dated but is very informative. Check out the comparison chart they have between Halogen, HID, and LED light outputs.

07LexusGuy-->Nice article on the LED evolution.
In most articles I have read, it seems the luminance (brightness) is rated higher for the HID's. However, it appears that LEDS are obviously plenty bright and are approaching HID's in their technology. Folks are definitely paying for this technology work based on the increased price for LED headlamps over halogens/HID's. One article from Wiki on HID/LED/Halogens.

Trust me if I could have put the HID's in my car I would have but with the options that I did want I was force to take the LED's and the higher price that went along with them. Just one of the things Lexus will do with a special order that you do not see until they try to place the order. Are we happy with the LED's yes would I still have put HID's in now no. Never saw the LED's on a car until my car got here. They work great less cut off on them.
