When I look at the "bar" graph in the navigation screen, my daily average is pretty level in the 20 - 25 range. In the last two weeks I've done a lot of flat interstate driving in 0 to 30 degree weather, so your average seems pretty normal for me in this kind of weather. Although I wish normal was closer to 30!!!

That does seem low. I'm getting an average of 23.4-23.6 a tank right now, but thats at 70-75 with ski's and ski rack on top. Are you doing a lot of short commutes on a cold start? Thats most probably why as its been cold here lately.

My average does get better when driving around town, even with the ski rack on. I believe my last around town average in the cold was in the 26's.

The reason why you are getting great gas mileage is very easy to comprehend. You live in an area where high temperatures during the day this time of year are in the upper 50s and 60s (assuming you live in the Phoenix or Tucson area). It would obviously be a little different story if you lived up by Flagstaff, but I doubt that is the case.

Yes I do live in the Phoenix area and I also drive in a way to get good mileage most of the time.

Yes, you should drive in a way that gives you good mileage. Back in the summer and much of the fall, I could easily get 32-35 mpg. But no matter how economically conscious one drives, when the temperature is down around zero, the gas mileage will stink, period.

I will take your word for that as 0 degree temps would cause my body to function differently also lol.

Truer words were never spoken. Indeed, the human body and any machine does not function well in bitter cold.

I have mentioned this before but my wife and I get different results by 3-4 MPG. Her driving style is to jab at pedal from starts and kind of run up near to car in front, then hit the brake to slow down--not a smooth ride.

I dare not critique her style of driving.

but she feels free to critique my driving.

What she does not like is as I come up behind cars I do not slow down as I approach-rather I time it or integrate my lane change so I rarely step on the brake. no herky jerky motion= better mileage--I am up over 30 usually while she is down around 26-27.

She has zero idea what her mileage is--oblivious to that stuff--puts on her xm and drives.

hal, hal...as married men, you know full well we can't argue or reason with our wives. it's "yes dear" or "no dear". it sucks to be us sometimes, but that's the way the ball bounces sometimes.
