RX-400 - 08 Snow Tires?
Hi,
I traded in my GX for an 08-RX-400. I live in Rockland, NY and am skeptical of the Michlin all weather tires for the winter. Does anyone have any tire suggestions or are these tire ok for a Northeast Winter
Thanks
Bobby

I have done extensive research into tires for the RX400h on www.tirerack.com
You have the Michelin X-ice (Look to much like a 4 WD truck tire) Pirelli Scorpion (Almost but saw a set on an employee's SUV look like 6 elastic bands in 30,000 miles) Bridgestone Alenza's (I read that someone took a 10% cut in gas milage) I do not know your driving habit's should it snow out I only worry about going the 16 miles up Route 17 to Mahwah and home again. Now I will turn around and go home if I do not like the roads in the AM I have done this several times. I have had no trouble with the factory Michelins at all in bad weather. I have 35,000 miles on them now they no doubt could go another 10,000 miles but I ordered all new tires from Prestige Lexus last week ($ for $ I buy them at the dealer or elsewhere price was very comparative) Reason for replacement at this point is I do not want to do them at 45,000 miles in January or February and say I should have done it earlier after a blizzard. I always replace tires early anyway.
BOBBY....I have a 2006 Rx400h. Live in Fairfield Co. (CT), but drive extensively in VT and upstate NY. Dealer recommended a "Blizzack" (? spelling) snow tires. Has worked VERY well for me through two winters. Tires provide a hum on the intertstate highway when plowed to the pavement, but, heh, a small trade-off for handing in the snow!

Just one stupid question. This is my first AWD car so I was wondering if I have to hit any switches when it starts snowing to engage the AWD or traction control system. A friend of mine turns the traction control off in his BMW when it snows. I was always confused as to why he would do that.
I had a set of Blizzack WS-60 on my Odyssey that I traded inf rot he RX. They have very good traction in the snow. There was however a slight wooshing noise on wet roads. But they are not as bad as the stock Michelins on the RX. I'm going to try the all seasons this winter and see how they do. We don't usually get more than five inches of snow. But then again, I live in an area with a lot of hills.

This is not a stupid question I have seen some All Wheel Drives you have a lot to do to use the system.
You do nothing the All Wheel Drive is fully automatic no switches buttons etc. to mess with.
