I have a 2008 450h and heard a rattle, but couldn't locate it. Drove (no pun here) me nutz. The cover over the gauges is set in five places and pulls out. There are three plastic inserts (middle, and on either side of that) that set themselves into the dash. No problem with them. The bottom section of this panel (which contains integrated wiring, signal, headlight indicators, etc.) has two (2) square 'pins' that seat themselves into square sheaths as anchors and these pins are made to move as they fit-in after the top of the part is seated. I found that the pin on my right wiggled more than needed and that over some bumps the resultant rattle reverberated in the square sheath/housing and travelled - annoying me to no end. Carefully take pull off the panel, but DON'T try to pull it off the dash unless you know to what it's connected (among them the small leather sheet connecting the steering wheel to the panel) and can disconnect the assembly flawlessly. Otherwise, you need to figure out a way to allow the pin to move but keep it quiet w/o taking the panel totally off. It is NOT ADVISABLE for everyone, but I created a cushion that does the trick and the panel doesn't force its way away from the dash (a real concern of mine).
