GS450h mileage
So, is everybody happy with the fuel efficiency of their hybrids? What mpg is everybody getting. So far, I've gotten 11 liters/100km in the city over 2 months of ownership... I'm not sure how to convert, but I think it is 21mpg.

Yeah 11L/100km = 21.38mpg.
At least according to Google.

that doesnt seem right. or the hyrbrid isnt cracked up to be all that and a box of chocolates. my AWD GS350 is getting me 22 to 23 MPG with a combination of city/hwy driving here in NYC. I really havent been pushing the car too hard. I've actually been driving the car quite conservatively so that may be a factor. Im sure if you mind your driving habits you can significantly improve the mpg.

I don't know if I'm doing the conversion right, but I've been driving it normally. I haven't been flooring it all the time. But my Honda Accord 4 cylinder gets 12l/100km, while my Toyota Sienna V6 gets 15l/100km. So, amongst those other cars, the GS has the best mileage.

I have about 1500 miles on my 450h so far and averaged a little less than 23miles/gallon. 80% of my driving is city driving. The number goes up a bit if I drive more freeway. When I drove more freeway, I got up to 25miles/gallon. The numbers are a little below my expectation. I have been driving very conservatively, no hard accelerations. Overall, I am satisified with the car and the mileage.

I haven't hit my 5,000mile checkup and change, so after that I'm sure it will improve, I'm at 4,500, BUT I am getting about 24, in the city 90%. And yes, I do gun it on the on ramp and get to 120 by the end.
It's pretty amazing to be going 140mph, and it feels like the engine is at 1,000rpm if it had a rpm. All I feel is road and wind noise..

I agree. I have driven the SL500 mercedes with a V8, but the 450h accelerates hard almost effortlessly. With the CVT, it almost seems like the car isn't trying at all. Meanwhile, the SL is nice but it grunts its way to high speed. Maybe the silence is just part of the futuristic appeal of the car.

Try a 12 cylinder. Before hybrids, I always used to characterize the CL600's performance as "electric motor like". If you hear much out of the engine in a 600 then you are flying, or will be in no time at all. This is a problem if you enjoy the sound of a 12-cyl in action...
Oh, I'm only on my second tank with the 450h, but so far 23 overall and looks like 27 highway, with AC on and I am not light footed.

Keep in mind that the GS450H and the RX400H are NOT designed specifically for improved fuel economy. The RX400H does get better economy in City than on Highway. RX400H great for soccer mom, GS450H great for Yee_haa no matter where.

ya, lexus is all about performance at a resomable gas consumption, where as toyota with the same engine, it more about getting 40mpg (new camry) than about performance.
I love my gs450h.

Keep in mind Lexus advertises V-8 performance with V-6 economy.
Under regular driving, most V-8's in this class average about 16-18mpg city and maybe 24-25 highway.
In the C&D review, under very hard driving the GS 450h avg 20MPG, the competiton 15 and 16mpg. So that is a 20% or more increase, though it doesn't SOUND like much.
Hybrids get better economy in city driving, stop and go traffic than highway driving

comparing mpg over different routes and driving styles is useless.
Someone could say that their V6 Rav4 gets better mpg than my diesel, and it could be true with me driving 1 mile commutes in city for most of the time. However in the same situation, my diesel would be at least 50% more efficient than V6.... Same goes for Hybrids.

Yes. I am happy with mileage on my GS450h, and realize that it is not tuned purely for fuel consumption. But given its horsepower and acceleration, the mileage is excellent. I was very surprised that it gets better fuel economy than my 4cyl accord. Once again, it works out to 11l/100km, so I think that means 21mpg (using US gallons, not imperial gallons). This is for 100% pure city driving - no highways at all. (Not much highways in Vancouver!)
