Default Post-recall for the 2010 HS

Don’t jump down my throat if someone else has asked this.

I just had both recalls done on my car, the transaxle and fuel pump. After three weeks, I have it back. The transaxle must be working because I’ve not had any problems. However I may be having a fuel pump problem. When I last filled my tank, the gauge only went up to half and the cruising miles were way, way off. After 10 minutes, the gauge made it up to full, but the cruising range was still way off. It stayed above full for about 70 miles, then started to drop. The cruising range went up, but was still 80 miles under. I have made an appointment to get it looked at. Now to the question. Since they replaced the fuel pump, is that what could be faulty? Is the fuel pump, sending unit, and float arm all in one assembly? Meaning that if they replaced the fuel pump, then all of that stuff is in just one unit? Thanks in advance!

I do not know if it is one unit or if they re-use your fuel level sensor & sender. I can only opine your new problems certainly relate to the new fuel pump and/or their installation. Most likely, they messed up the installation somehow and damaged or incorrectly installed your fuel level sensor/sender, or the new unit is defective. They will fix it under the warranty and be best able to answer your question afterwards. Let us know what you find out! I had no issues after mine was replaced.

Update - I began to get a smell of gasoline after filling up the car, this was between 1 and 2 years after the fuel pump recall. It is at the dealer now and they said the fuel pump seal is bad and are asking Lexus corporate for good will to pay for it as it did not do this before the recall. However, they said I should have brough it in sooner as it has been 2 years. However we only noticed it when parking in the garage after filling up and that did not happen very often. Will update when I find out if Lexus is feeling like spreading some goodwill my way.

Follow up on prior post. Lexus agreed to a one time goodwill repair of the defective fuel pump seal. I think it was defective or improperly installed when the fuel pump was replaced and gradually got worse as time went on.
